Suspended ban for 7 teams

The seven teams at the heart of the United States Grand Prix fiasco have responded to the FIA’s suspended punishment with an immediate appeal. They argue that the FIA’s contention that they were not in possession of suitable tyres is not applicable to them as it was the responsibility of Michelin, not the teams, to supply them. And they further argue that they are not guilty of refusing to participate in the race as it was not safe for them to do so under the only means put to them by the FIA (that their drivers slow down for turn 13.)The latter point was backed up by a comment signed by nineteen current F1 drivers, stating that it would be unsafe for some drivers to navigate turn 13 at reduced speeds while others did so flat out. The other three charges against the Michelin teams were dropped. The FIA’s penalty will not be enforced until after September, and the details of it have not yet been released.
