F1 car makers threaten walk-out

The stakes have been raised in the dispute between the FIA and car manufacturers over the FIA’s controversial plans to freeze engine development. According to an article in today’s Sunday Times the GPMA-aligned manufacturers are threatening to leave the sport if the terms of Max Mosley’s engine plans are not changed.

One executive summer up the fundamental flaw with the engine freeze plan perfectly:

In essence we are being asked to put the competitive position on hold. At the moment Renault and Ferrari have a slight advantage on engine power ?â?ó?óÔÇÜ?¼" so does everyone have to accept their superiority for three years? It’s ridiculous.

You know it’s not the best Formula One season when the most interesting stories about it are in the business pages…
