Colin Turkington crossed the line first at the end of the first BTCC race at Snetterton – but was disqualified after post-race inspection revealed his car was 5kg underweight.

That meant Team Halford’s Gordon Shedden inherited the win, ahead of Turkington’s team mate Tom Onslow-Cole and Vauxhall’s Tom Chilton.

Onslow-Cole beat Turkington off the line to lead the race, but was passed on lap five by the Ulsterman. Shedden also got past Onslow-Cole and chased Turkington to the flag.

Matt Neal finished a lap down after tangling with Jason Plato on lap one. The Seat driver fell to 17th but finished ninth on the road before being promoted to eight.

Fabrizio Giovanardi cut Plato’s points advantage, ultimately finishing fifth behind Mat Jackson after muscling past Darren Turner. The Seat driver was then passed by Mike Jordan.
