I’ve almost finished moving the Predictions Championship over from the old system to Ian Haycox’s terrific new plugin.
However because some people used slightly different names in the last round compared to the previous ones, some of the points totals aren’t complete.
Here are the standings as they look at the moment. If you seem to have a zero score for the Spa round and were expecting to get points, check further down the list to see if there’s a slightly different version of your name. If you think your score isn’t right, leave a comment below and I’ll take a look into it.
Thanks again to Ian for the excellent plugin, which will hopefully make this much quicker and more accurate at the next race.

Vettel
Raikkonen
Hamilton
Vettel
Shouldn’t I be scoring 25 points other than 10

Hi Wasi,
I have your prediction down as:
Vettel
Raikkonen
Hamilton
Webber
Which scored ten. Did you definitely enter Vettel as the fourth name when you submitted it via the form?
Damon

It’s easy to forget what your prediction was and think it was different.

A suggestion for you, Keith and Ian, this can be easily solved by having a email sent to the email address entered on the form. This will show what they entered and confirm their entry at the time. This should stop any disputes of what was entered. Ian should be able to easily incorporate it into his plugin. More work for Ian and less for you. ;-)

Good idea. I’ll see if I can add this as an option to the next version.
The latest version installed here does have a new option to show the predictions for a specific race, so from Monza on you should be able to check your predictions.

I guess it was Vettel as the fourth name when you submitted it via the form. Its hard to remember. But anyways pleas check it again if I am wrong then let it be the way it is.

Hi Keith
Have you seen my prediction. Is it fix or its in the same way
J-Canada
5th September 2009, 5:29
Hi Keith,
I made a mistake for the Hungary round. Instead of listing my name as J-Canada I posted it as J_Canada. I know its only for 10 points but this is a serious championship!
Damon

“Only” 10 points?!? Dude, that’s huuuuge!!

Keith, another suggestion would be to have us register first with a name and email address for the competition. Then this can be automatically checked with the database whether they are correct at the time of entry. It should solve the above problems.
To Ian this can be done with AJAX and the javascript XMLHttpRequest object.
ianhaycox
6th September 2009, 0:46
There is an option within the plugin to only allow registered users to make predictions. However the original version, and the latest version currently installed have this option turned off by default. Registered blog users do not need to enter a username or e-mail address because it is in their profile.
My reasoning for leaving that option off was that I am sure Keith did not want 500 people to register a couple of days before Spa and have to approve all the registrations. Also being halfway through the season it seem the path of least resistance.
Hopefully I chose the best ‘middle’ way and if it has caused a little pain for Keith or any predictors then I apologise.
If it’s any consolation I got zero points for my prediction :-)
Keith Collantine (@keithcollantine)
6th September 2009, 8:09
I think that’s something we’ll look into for the future. In general I’m not keen in making people register for stuff. Perhaps this should be an exception though.
Austin
7th September 2009, 20:16
To Keith, the person is registering the first time they enter the competition. If its a open solution your looking for rather than a “register here” then the name and email they enter the first time should be saved to your servers database. Ian’s plugin should be doing this already and can be checked transparently with the javascript XMLHttpRequest object when they make their next entry. This will check with the server whether their name and email match on the fly without submitting first. Ian should know what i’m talking about.

J-Canada, your score should be fixed now.

Hi Keith,
For the European GP I correctly predicted that Barrichello would win, but I haven’t received any points it. As J-Canada already stated: this is a serious championship!
Cheers

Haven’t fixed this one yet as it’s a little complicated, but will post here when it’s done.

Damon
5th September 2009, 13:31
I see one error, Keith.
There is ‘Pawelf1′ on the 15th place in the standings, who scored 0 points in that round.
But, there is also ‘pawelf1′ – the same nickname without a capitalized initial letter, who scored 5 points.
This is obiously the same person.
The system shouldn’t differentiate between the higher and the lower case.
[There might be more cases of that error.]
Keith Collantine (@keithcollantine)
5th September 2009, 21:24
Done that one too!

Did anyone predict Fisichella on pole or 2nd?
Keith Collantine (@keithcollantine)
5th September 2009, 21:48
Just one person predicted Fisichella second (no-one put him on pole position), who entered with the name ‘Adrian Sutil’!
Thanks to Ian’s cool plugin you can review the predictions here: https://www.racefans.net/2009/08/28/make-you-belgian-gp-predictions-now/
Mike "the bike" Schumacher
5th September 2009, 14:26
Well nobody got 60 points, and I think it was 150/1 for Fisi getting pole
Brakius
5th September 2009, 17:36
Seriously people, if you can’t remember the name you have your points under or can’t put it in the same way week after week, you should get 0 points.
Keith, you sure are generous, as I know this is a lot of work, and problems like this make it much more difficult. Personally, I’d make it the team owners responsibility to make sure everything is correct before hitting submit.
Thanks for all your effort.

100% with Brakius on that one!
Great effort by Keith and Ian!

Well done on creating this plugin. I have downloaded it and will check it out on my Wamp server workstation. If I find any bugs I will let you know. :-) By the way your plugin is getting a lot of downloads, over 100 according to the stats on your plugin page on wordpress.org with 46 downloaded last week, probably due to you linking it here. ;-)

I named Vettel for 3rd, didn’t I?
Shouldn’t i get 25 points instead of 10?
Keith Collantine (@keithcollantine)
6th September 2009, 9:32
You predicted Hamilton for pole, then Webber-Hamilton-Vettel. So you get ten points for correctly naming one person on the podium (Vettel).
You can check your predictions here (click ‘Show predictions’ and select ‘Spa’):

brouard21
6th September 2009, 15:57
Hi Keith, at the time of posting i mistakenly put my real name of Ben Brouard instead of brouard21 into the calculation. You kindly said you would fix this but you must have missed it because ‘Ben Brouard’ appears with 5 points, and ‘brouard21’ scored nothing at the weekend.
Thanks in advance
Ben
Keith Collantine (@keithcollantine)
6th September 2009, 21:27
Hi Ben – Sorry, that’s now been fixed.

6th September 2009, 19:36
Hi Keith,
I have 0 points for Spa and my entry was:
ukk HAM HAM VET RAI 2009-09-01 21:59:18
Can you please check what’s wrong?
Thanks!
Keith Collantine (@keithcollantine)
6th September 2009, 21:29
That’s because your username previously has been UKK but for the last round you used ukk. I’ve changed that to UKK and now your points should be correct.

12th September 2009, 14:20
Hi Keith,
I’ve checked but can’t find a different version of my name!
For Belgium, I predicted
Webber
Webber
Vettel
Hamilton
so I should have 5 points for Vettel, right?
Thanks!
Keith Collantine (@keithcollantine)
15th September 2009, 20:56
That was because you didn’t enter your prediction into the form, you just posted it in a comment. I’ve manually added your prediction into the system but I won’t do this in future, please use the form.
