We’re eight weeks away from the first race of the year at Bahrain. Here’s today’s F1 Fanatic round-up:

No "equalising" of engines for 2010 (James Allen)

“After extensive discussions got nowhere, the FIA is believed to have ruled that the engines will stay as they are with no re-tuning.”

Q&A with Paul di Resta

“Since the test for sure we have been in talks, and I would say we are about 90 per cent there [for a test driver role]. We are in the final stages of finishing off for the programme they have set and hopefully we can build a very long and strong relationship for me to try and race with Force India in the future.”

Comment of the day

MattM was not impressed with some of the cars on show at Autosport International:

Having gone on Thursday, the Lotus 72 is so stunning in the flesh. The Renault stand of the modern F1 cars was disgraceful. Instead of putting an ’09 or few years old F1 car there, they put up a World Series car with 09 F1 livery!! The cheek of them! Ferrari were no better, with an F2003-GA.

You may have already seen this one, as it’s the most commented thread in the forum by a long way, but if not it’s time you caught up with the discussion on who will go where in 2010.

Happy birthday!

We’ve not had many F1 Fanatic reader birthdays recently. But today we’ve got four – the most we’ve had in a single day. Happy birthday to Gerdoner, Ads21, gabal and Bev.

On this day in F1

On this day seven years ago then-FIA president Max Mosley told the press: “We’ve never been partial to Ferrari.” An interesting comment given we learned last year Ferrari had been given the power to veto new F1 technical rules at one point…

  1. Happy Birthday Gerdoner, Ads21, gabal and Bev.

  2. I feel they made the wrong desition with the engine rule.

  3. Renault had their F1 09 car at India’s Auto Expo from 5th to the 11th.

  4. A cynic may say that the engine rule is a rule made by the ex Ferrari boss at the fia to give Ferrari the one up over mclaren and their customer engines. They may also say brawn wouldn’t be mercedes this year if mclaren had better engines compared to brawn. Just a thought, although it’s more just taking the Mick put of those who take these ideas so seriously!

  5. Having gone on Thursday, the Lotus 72 is so stunning in the flesh. The Renault stand of the modern F1 cars was disgraceful. Instead of putting an ‘09 or few years old F1 car there, they put up a World Series car with 09 F1 livery!! The cheek of them! Ferrari were no better, with an F2003-GA.

    Renault R25?

  6. Happy birthday to those celebrating!

I’m glad there’ll be no engine equalisation. Red Bull can’t moan about being down on power when the Renault is so much better at fuel economy, especially for next year when even one lap’s worth of fuel less for the whole race may be almost as advantageous as a more powerful engine.

  7. I was at Autosport International for the first time this year, and was very surprised at the low level of presence by the F1 teams and manufacturers.
It actually seemed to be dominated by the suppliers to the BTCC and its support races, as well as many Stock Cars and the lesser divisions of motor racing (which do still deserve our support!)
However, there was a big space filled with the Yas Marina, but not apparently supporting F1 very much. There was even a lack of F1 drivers around, apart from JB, so perhaps its not somewhere to go expecting the usual hype, but more a place to see what makes a racing car tick?
