Rosberg kept out of trouble for fifth place while his team mate seemed to have a magnetic attraction to Saubers.

Michael Schumacher

Logged plenty of laps in practice as he familiarised himself with a new circuit. It paid off in qualifying where he reached Q3 for the first time since the British Grand Prix.

A mistake at turn three let Mark Webber through for eighth. Then, shortly before his scheduled pit stop, he banged wheels with Kamui Kobayashi and bounced off a barrier.

He kept going only to collide with the other Sauber later on, knocking Nick Heidfeld out of the race.

That left him on a recovery drive which ended with him passing Heikki Kovalainen for 13th.

Nico Rosberg

Another unobtrusive performance typical of Rosberg’s 2010 campaign. He qualified seventh and was comfortably quicker than Schumacher at the beginning of the race.

Ten points for a ‘best of the rest’ fifth place keeps him within six of Felipe Massa in the drivers’ championship. The scoreline against his team mate is a crushing 122 to 46.

    1. I think Rosberg would get win the Quietest Driver of 2010 title. Just seems to go unnoticed throughout each race, staying out of trouble for most of the time. Then it gets to the end and the classification come sup and it’s like ‘Oh yeah, Rosberg – 5th?!?’

      1. He’s a driver I would have in my dream team, along with Kubica. Massive respect for Rosberg, dissapointed he didn’t go to Mclaren for 2010 as planned.

        1. Yeah absolutely! Let’s hope Merc get their act together for next year and make the big three the big four. Actually Renault would make a great fifth contender too :)

          1. We can only hope.

      2. A bit of the Heidfeld consistency, although Rosberg might be faster if they give him the right car.

Compare that with the mistakes in his first years at Williams.

      3. Yeah, I read this and thought “oh, Rosberg ended up 5th?”

    2. I think Kubica would be a great top team driver.
Not sure the same Rosberg, but I would like a lot to test him.

    3. The more days are going Roseberg is getting stronger & Schumacher is getting weaker. The main reason is all the attention is on Schumacher while Nico is just driving his race.

    4. Surely Old Schuey only made it into the final 10 because Massa didn’t survive Q1?

      1. Nope. Kobayashi wouldn’t have make it then.

    5. Rosberg, along with Kubica, seems to get the maximum from the car every weekend. I too hope that Mercedes can put a decent car underneath him next year so that we can see him challenging at the front.

    6. My opinion of Rosberg and Mercedes has changed throughout the course of this year. I gave neither a decent grade at the beginning of the year, but it is apparent that if they continue on the path they are presently on, they will be a force to be reckoned with next year.

The same is true of Renault, although I’m not sure Petrov should remain part of that package, unless they want a clear second driver status to Robert.

      1. I think we aren’t giving Petrov enough respect it is his first season and he is up against one of the best drivers on the grid. Think how erratic Massa was when he started. For my money the worst driver on the grid is Liuzzi

    7. Zecks….i agree with you..i dont want to see liuzzi next year breaking force india in every race
