Ferrari have revealed the name for their 2011 F1 car.
The F150 will be launched in Maranello this Friday (January 28th).
The name marks the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy.
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo said:
Ferrari is an expression of Italian excellence, talent and creativity. All the men and women who put so much effort and passion into their work at Maranello share the pride and responsibility of representing our country around the world and it is in this spirit that we chose to dedicate this car to an event that is so important for the whole of Italy.
Luca di Montezemolo
In the past Ferrari’s car designations have tended to refer to the year in which they were raced (e.g. F2008) or their engine configuration (e.g. 248 F1, for 2.4-litre V8). The team said the Italian flag will feature prominently on this year’s car.

That has the aerodynamic properties of a brick, classic American styling, I love it US_Peter.
My particular favourite, or favorite to you Peter is the beast known as the Plymouth Barracuda V10, it doesn’t so much cut through the air like most cars… it punches through it.

Seems everyone is now pushing out the messages to get as much attention to their early launch event as possible. What’s in a name?
Or will Ferrari get an F50 follow up on the road soon under this name?

Wasn’t the Enzo supposed to be the F50 follow-up?

Yes, that’s why if you Google “F60” you find some pictures of the Enzo Ferrari, because after the F40 and F50 the Enzo was thought to be called F60.

Yeah, I’ve never understood Ferrari’s numbering system. I know the F2008 was named for the year, as was the F(20)10. The F60 was given that designation to celebrate 60 years for Formula 1 – but I can’t for the life of me explain the F150 badge.

I think it’s good they stray from using a sequential system. And in this instance, if you’ve read what it’s dedicated to in the article, I think it’s a pretty decent name.

Yeah, I figure it’ll be minimal at best. But even looking at the recent video posted in the roundup ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvd-RzR-PUo ) you can see some touches of the Italian flag on the airbox of the Ferraris. I imagine it will be similar.

Ok so they’ve just lost the constructors championship by not naming it in the “normal” way, which hasn’t been used since 2008 (when they last won).
But I understand their reasoning of 150 and hopefully they will have a big italian flag or ferrari logo in the blank spaces (or even santander).

My personal favourite method of Ferrari nomenclature is the one that refers to the individual displacement of each cylinder. Sadly the last time that was used was on the Ferrari 456.

26th January 2011, 18:16
Im glad you brought that up. I was just going to make the same remark! It would be so cool if they brought that back. Instead of Ferrari’s new road car being called the Ferrari Four (or “FF”), it could be called the 521FF, which I think is much cooler. On the other hand, that would mean that this generation of V8 F1 cars would be called “300F1” or something like that, with some deliniation between the years. So this year’s car could be the “300F1-06” (its the sixth car with this engine config), which I think would be pretty cool too :)

theRoswellite
26th January 2011, 17:40
Incorporating nationalistic or even non-political causes, such as environmentalism, into the outward presentation of the car has the potential for creating an…….awkward dynamic….does anyone remember the Honda “earth dreams” car?
If any non-racing enterprise is closely associated with the car, most often through commercial signage, the public tends to link them together, often in a “mutual bond of merit”.
Thus a problem can result when the performance of the car is something other than stellar.
It was ashamed, if a bit ironic, to see all “our” environmental hopes for the future running around at the back of the field…..as a failure.
Obviously, this will not be the fate of the new Ferrari, none the less it has the potential for an uncomfortable and unnecessary bit of melodrama.

Really interesting article post. Your article is really interesting. I liked this article. This blog post is outstanding! I have to say that after continually reading poor as in, same old material, little quality content, etc. article posts on other sites, it’s enjoyable to actually read something that has some thought put into it. It’s a pleasure to read good article posts, especially after continually seeing rehashed %$!# that writers and bloggers are throwing out nowadays. It’s always nice when I come across content that actually has value, I’ve been seeing a ton of subpar writing attempts recently. Anyways, thanks again and I’ll check back regularly to see what else you have to offer. I’ll check back in the future to see what else you have up your sleeve. Keep up the terrific work! BTW, I like your site design, but your header image was only loading half way for me. P.S. Your header is messed up a bit in IE. The problem could be on my end but I thought you might want to look into that.
