Glock lost time on the first practice session after colliding with Mark Webber as the Red Bull driver tried to pass him at the last corner: “It was a pretty short one due to the problems on the track and then the incident with Webber, which in the end made us lose a lot of time.

“The rear left tyre was punctured and I didn’t run again as we didn’t want to waste a set of tyres in FP1.”

Even on a track he typically excels at, Glock couldn’t get with a second of the Lotuses in qualifying.

His race was ruined on the first lap after he was hit by Daniel Ricciardo. “Not a great weekend for us,” said Glock on Twitter afterwards.

“Unfortunately Ricciardo hit me in the first lap on the rear right. From that moment rear toe was wrong. Car was really difficult to drive, couldn’t hold on track any more.”

Struggling with his car, he crashed out on lap ten: “My steering wheel was not straight, it was quite a lot to the right, and in all the left-hand corners the car was really difficult to drive.

“I had a lot of degradation on the rear right tyre and then suddenly I lost the rear under braking and when I hit the wall I think it broke the rear suspension and that was it.”

Impressively qualified just two-tenths of a second off Glock, and passed his team mate at the start.

He was 17th with two laps to go but couldn’t keep Heikki Kovalainen, who had put on fresh tyres, behind him.

Vitaly Petrov also came past before the chequered flag.

    1. 2 years ago he was on the podium then now…

    2. I’ll bet he (Glock) is disappointed !

      1. Not that he’d have scored points, but a wasted oppurtunity nonetheless.

    3. Glock seems to be getting a bit ragged, but with this car there just isn’t much he can do, I expect. Meanwhile, d’Ambrosio seems to be more consistent than di Grassi, and better able to keep Glock alert although the car, again, makes it hard to judge his speed.

Last year we thought HRT was a mess, but this season has clearly shown that Virgin are the real trouble child. I hope their partnership with McLaren can help them get a better package next year. Glock and d’Ambrosio, and the guys in the pitlane, deserve a better chance to show what they can do.

      1. Plus remember that they’ve had a major overhaul in the way of ditching a purely CFD car. I try not to be too harsh on them considering that, it was a bold move.

    4. Glock had a busy weekend. His bet on thursday, the practice incident with webber on friday, hitting ricciardo at the start and then crashing!

    5. Atleast he got the chance in the paddock to focus his attention on Vettel to see if he was going to win him his money..!!!

    6. Glock and d’Ambrosio look to have been running very similar lap times before Glock crashed out.
