The return of the Mexican Grand Prix next year will increase the 2015 F1 calendar to 20 races.

A draft version of next year’s schedule published by German website Speed Week indicates the race at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez will take place on the weekend before the United States Grand Prix at Austin.

The circuit in Mexico City last held a round of the world championship in 1992 and will be heavily revised in order to hold next year’s grand prix.

The calendar is otherwise largely unchanged from this year. The season will open with the Australian Grand Prix at Melbourne, which recently announced a contract extension.

The Yas Marina circuit at Abu Dhabi will host the final race of the season for the fourth time. As this year, double points will be awarded for the final race, as the rule remains in the 2015 Sporting Regulations.

It will be the second time Formula One has visited 20 venues in one season, which last happened in 2012.

  1. Very similar calendar to this years. I’d like more races but quality is more important than quantity, so I’d rather have 18 races, but without Sochi and Abu Dhabi.

    1. @osvaldas31 Give Sochi a chance. I know it doesn’t look great but we may be wrong!

  2. So Mexico will be one of the last double header races along with Austin of 2015
I would take France GP over Russian GP

  3. The calendar is wrong I reckon. It should look something like this
    Australian GP Mar 13-15
    Malaysian GP Mar 27-29
    Bahrain GP Apr 10-12
    Chinese GP Apr 24-26
    Spanish GP May 8-10
    Monaco GP May 22-24
    Canadian GP June 5-7
    Austria June 19-21
    British GP July 3-5
    German GP July 17-19
    Hungarian GP Aug 31-2
    Belgian GP Aug 14-16
    Italian GP Aug 28-30
    Russia GP Sep 11-13
    Singapore GP Sep 25-27
    Japan GP Oct 9-11
    Abu Dhabi GP Oct 23-25
    Mexican GP Nov 6-8
    US GP Nov 20-22
    Brazil Nov 28-30

    1. Completely agree. Abu dhabi is the anti c;imax season finale with a boring circuit and zero chance of rain

    2. I like this calendar. Admittedly I’d probably care (slightly) less about the double points issue if it was at a circuit that is traditional to the calendar and is known to produce exciting racing (two ticked boxes for Interlagos and two crossed boxes for Abu Dhabi).

    3. I recon the F1 calendar should be like this. I say this because this whole road show would save much more money in transport costs and save the worlds energy resources (isn’t what these Hybrids F1’s are supposed to do?) and set an example with these new rules. The 2015 F1 calendar:
      1. Australian GP Mar 13-15
      2. Singapore GP Mar 27-29
      3. Malaysian GP Apr 10-12
      4. Japan GP Apr 24-26
      5. Chinese GP May 8-10
      6. Abu Dhabi GP May 22-24
      7. Bahrain GP June 5-7
      8. Russia GP June 19-21
      9. Brazil GP July 3-5
      10. Mexican GP July 17-19
      11. US GP Aug 31-2
      12. Canadian GP Aug 14-16
      MID SEASON BREAK
      13. British GP Sep 11-13
      14. Belgian GP
      15. German GP
      16. Spanish GP Sep 25-27
      17. Italian GP Oct 9-11
      18. Monaco GP Oct 23-25
      19. Austria GP Nov 6-8
      20. Hungarian GP Nov 20-22

      1. Sorry I made a mistake and this is a correction of the above, what do you all think?

        19. Austria GP Nov 27-29
        20. Hungarian GP Dec 11-13

        1. Have you been to Mexico/Texas in late July and August??? No, that will not work

          1. @pastaman Moreover, I think Austrailia, Malaysia, and Singapore do not need to have one week off between them. I believe it was 2012 when Austrailia and Malaysia went back to back.

  4. Formula Indonesia (@)
    7th September 2014, 12:38

So Azerbaijan will be in 2016, but anyway Abu Dhabi shouldn’t host the finale Interlagos or Austin is better

  5. When are they bringing in that Azerbaijan race? And to think India and France still want a GP

    1. 2016. The other two won’t happen

  6. I wonder how much the Abu Dhabu GP paid/bribed/etc for double points…

    1. @jh1806 Double money for double points? But it’s probably an extra $10m.

      1. If Bernie was wise, he put an escalator on that as well, so it’ll be $11m, then $12.1m etc…

  7. Shouldn’t the German GP be at the Nurburgring?

    1. Was thinking the same thing…

  8. One thing I feel they’ve overlooked is that quite a decent amount of fans who go to the Austin race are Mexican – putting those 2 races side by side could hurt attendance for the US race.

    1. @ciaran True, but as the only US GP for the forseeable future, there is scope to grow the audience travelling in from the east and especially west coasts.

    2. Why not have Mexico after Canada?

      1. @gicu I don’t know. Maybe because of the weather. It’s hotter than in November. But it rains more on June.

  9. This is also more bad news for India, with the calendar being allowed to have a maximum of 20 races per year, and with Azerbaijan already lined up, a return to India seems even more unlikely. And let’s not even talk about New Jersey…

    1. this means engines rules will be relaxed to 5 instead of 4 next year

  10. What about New Jersey?

  11. What happened to the New Jersey street race?

  12. Disappointed that Abu Dhabi still has the finale (please move it back to Brazil, I’ll even stop complaining about double points if you do that – I’d rather double points at Brazil than a regular-points Abu Dhabi final TBH)
Disappointed that New Jersey is still absent from the calendar
Disappointed if Hockenheim stays on the calendar rather than the Nürburgring (the latter is just a much better circuit IMHO)

However, there are bright sides too:
Australia remains the first race of the season (yay Australia)
Japan is back in its rightful place on my birthday, along with Bathurst (lucky me – go home Russia)
Bernie hasn’t been stupid and dropped a race that deserves to say (for which we should consider ourselves pretty lucky)
Mexico will probably have a great atmosphere, which even when I’m sitting in front of a TV screen thousands of kilometres away I find makes a huge difference.
