Wet start to Canadian Grand Prix weekend

2015 Canadian Grand Prix weather

The weather had been unseasonally cool in Montreal during the first days of June, but temperatures will rise to their typical levels in time for this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix.

However, as was the case at the previous round in Monaco, there is a significant chance that the opening day of practice will be affected by rain. The temperature should hold up, however, potentially reaching as high as 24C.

Sunny conditions are forecast during qualifying but conditions will be slightly cooler. Similar conditions are currently expected for race day: dry and perhaps a little warmer.

For more updates on the track conditions during each session keep an eye on F1 Fanatic Live and the F1 Fanatic Twitter account.

  1. So no running basically.

  2. weather gods no one wants to see rain in practice please just give us some on Sunday for once…

    1. Rain can just as easily spoil a good race as well as make a good race.

      1. considering how boring F1 has been this season I don’t think a bit of rain could make it worse

        1. Everybody is entitled to their opinion, I don’t happen to agree. Has it been a classic start to a season? No, not really, then again the best tracks are yet to come up. Has it been boring though? No, but then not every race can be a classic, not every season can be a classic either. Having said that I don’t think there has ever been an era when some people thought it was boring, will always happen.

          1. some people didn’t think*

  3. It is a real let-down when it rains on a Friday, very likely no action at all….:(

  4. No running and a rare time for the working European fan to watch FP2. There is no God.

  5. Morning everyone. Greetings from Montreal. Sorry about the weather forecast for Friday. But we’re due to have a fine weekend, hopefully without major weather inconvenience (temperatures here were down to +3C earlier in the week with snow just to the north of us on Mont Tremblant – so we’re still in the period of crazy weather between winter and summer – it would be unfair to call it spring).

If you’ll forgive the blatant self promotion, we’ve got a website here for Montreal weather that includes a webcam just to the west of the circuit that updates every 3 seconds … if you want to see live weather about 2 minutes before it hits the circuit, you’re more than welcome to visit!

    1. Well, snow in F1 would be interesting. Shame we missed that.

      1. Yup, hail is fairly common, but snow would make for some interesting tire choices (this is a shot of the weather radar just to the North of Montreal from two days ago).

      2. Has there ever been snow on race weekends I wonder….

        1. Don’t think so, But how awesome would an F1 be with studded tyres!

  6. Sorry – the link to the website didn’t come through. Montreal webcam weather

    1. Is that link safe, can anyone confirm.

I am wary of clicking on webcam links.

      1. The link’s fine. Just showing a couple white vans….wait I hear something outside my house…a black helicopter in stealth mode…someone’s at the door…oh no!…it’s the link…they’re after me…too late!…don’t use the linnnnn–

        1. Omg… Smb help this man…

    2. @plattsa2

Thanks for the link, I will be checking it tomorrow in an optimistic mood…..:)

  7. I would have rather had sunny day on Friday and rain on race day to spice things up!

  8. Is it just me or do we really see much less wet races than 5-10 years ago? It seems that if there’s rain it only affects the free practices or the qualifying!

    1. Nope, it’s just that the rainy races are more memorable.

      1. Keep quiet. Every criticism is taken on board and instead of a clear goal in mind which involves including some things and compromising on others the FIA just use a bit of everything. If you do not stop this Bernies Sprinkler idea will be included for 2017.

    2. @ianbond001 – I have had that feeling too. Most noticably I fele like I remember far more races red flagged for rain after 2010.

    3. No it is really not raining in races anymore. Not related to memory or anything.

      1. Add Suzuka for 2014.

        1. And Hungary…

So 1981, 2000 and 2008 had the most wet races.

      3. Might be interesting to overlap these numbers with stats on El Nino and A La Nina years … http://ggweather.com/enso/oni.htm

  9. I live in Montreal and the weather forecasts this spring have been changing every day.
Yesterday, the forecast for tomorrow was what they now have for Sunday, and only scattered showers for Friday.

    1. Maybe by tomorrow, tomorrow’s forecast would be Saturday’s or Sunday’s? Hope.

That should be a hope for more drama!

  11. Quit worrying about water and worry about humans. Go back to Fahrenheit rest of the world! Celsuis is a silly way to communicate air tempature to the masses.

    1. I’d love to know why…

  12. Celsius master race!

  13. The rain should make more exciting in the race. :D

  14. I wonder why we are not getting rainy Sundays any more. Its like the rain Gods are starving us of wet races.
Every race weekend is like: “Rain expected for the weekend, except for the race, which should be dry” or ” Heavy rain is forecast for Friday, cloudy and cool but dry weather for Saturday, and warm and sunny conditions for race day”. Canadian rain Gods, I pray to you.

    #ForzaJules.
