Romain Grosjean was left frustrated as he was unable to set a lap time in Q3 due to a hydraulic leak on his car.
Grosjean reported a fault with the brake-by-wire system on his car after joining the track at the beginning of the top ten shoot-out, and the team swiftly instructed him to head for the pits.
“That was frustrating as we should be qualifying higher than P9,” said Grosjean afterwards. He ended the session tenth in the classification, but Daniil Kvyat ahead of him will take a ten-place penalty, moving Grosjean up to ninth.
The Lotus driver revealed the team came close to getting his car on track in time for the end of qualifying.
“It was a hydraulic leak which we thought we could fix, but sadly we just missed out on going out again,” he said.
Pastor Maldonado, who did not make it into the top ten, said he was unable to do a clean lap in Q2.
