Rosberg: Ferrari aren't close (Sky)
"We've been saying all this time over the last few weeks that they are very close, very close, maybe we need to stop saying that for now because this weekend is looking very, very strong from our side. We look to have opened the gap."
"Unless you’re a muppet you know the facts. You watch the last three races and see the problems Lewis has had."
Pirelli wants fresh tyre pressure clampdown (Autosport)
"The correct solution is we should have a live feed of tyre pressures fed through the data systems, so we can see at any one point what the minimum running pressure is, which is what we are really interested in, to avoid this grey area."
F1’s push for better safety united but drivers remain divided over Halo (The Guardian)
"Wearing a helmet is not voluntary. HANS (head and neck support) is not voluntary. So I can hardly imagine that we will make halo voluntary."
Hamilton feels 'almost helpless' (BBC)
"I am very curious as to what is going on so I have asked them to give me as much detail as possible because we did 800km a day in testing and the car was faultless and all of a sudden two times in a row the same thing."
Hamilton suffered 'a freak failure' - Wolff (F1i)
"I think we have eight power units out there and seven didn’t have any problems and one had a problem twice."
Kimi Raikkonen: Ferrari engine upgrade not making a big difference (ESPN)
"There are no massive things there, some improvements here and there, with the whole package in the car, so we take it. But it's not like it's making a big, big difference."
Toro Rosso role too good to turn down, says Booth (Reuters)
"I'm still involved with the WEC, I'll be at Spa next weekend."
Mercedes teams opposed fuel limit raise on principle - Wolff (Motorsport)
"Wolff says that the Mercedes-powered teams - Mercedes, Williams, Force India and Manor - opposed the change on the basis that F1 should be seen to be green."

Too bad we were robbed of battle for pole between Lewis & Nico. Same technical issue afflicting one driver over team mate not unusual #F1

There's a very LOUD band outside my Sochi hotel window playing all the tracks which didn't make preliminary Eurovision Song Contest rounds 😫

Apparently these base beat bullies are on until 11pm. I can only imagine the stream of phone calls from drivers and trainers to reception

Comment of the day
It’s a good job Lewis Hamilton doesn’t have Carlos Sainz Jnr’s luck – just two technical faults for him in the last few races was enough to prompt predictable conspiracy theory drivel from some quarters:
I get that Hamilton fans are frustrated and I fully understand why they ask Mercedes ‘What is going on?’.
However, the idea that a team, which pays its very popular driver tens of millions of dollars every year and has spent hundreds of millions to build a dominant car that has brought the same driver already two world championships, are suddenly sabotaging him for whatever reason is beyond ridiculous.

As hard as it is to admit, yes, Ferrari isn’t as close as we thought.
I would still watch Formula 1 for the amazing battles in the midfield race after race, but the leading position and the championship isn’t as entertaining as it should be.

As long as Rosberg is cruising and Hamilton’s engines are breaking down, it won’t be…

That’s true but F1 should not artificially try to close this gap, every few year a title goes to the wire but if this is forced it no longer becomes special. In the late naughties we were spoilt by dramatic title battles but these do not happen every year, sometimes we have to wait a decade for it. I have watched F1 for 30 years and this season is very good so far.
Nice to see someone at Merc admitting Ferrari are no threat for now. Convenient they say this and appear to have turned their engines up as soon as it had been agreed on engine situation until 2020. Coincidence?

@ducpham2708 @x303 It bears pointing out that Mercedes’ closest rivals were one-tenth of a second closer to them in qualifying at this track compared to last year:

I think we should ALL be able to see live tyre pressures. Teams can already, after all.

It should read “KIMI isn’t as close as we thought”.
If SV hadn’t been hit by an amateur TWICE, it may have been a different story.

Kimi’s race pace is pretty close to Seb’s anyways, so I think Rosberg is making an informed decision. Kimi also outqualified Seb in China, so it’s not like he’s incredibly slow and is hiding Ferrari’s true pace.

@KeithCollantine Thanks very much for the COTD. I have to admit that I am finding it a bit hard to enjoy F1 right now because of all the politics, lack of real battles during the races and lack of purposeful discussions off the track. That is why it is so important to know that there are still many fellow fans, who I enjoy talking to.
