Sauber reveal a 360-degree perspective of Halo

Sauber have given a novel perspective on the proposed Halo safety system using a 360-degree camera.

This image created by the team gives a new view how the safety structure could reduce visibility for drivers.

However the FIA is keen to introduce a new safety structure along the lines of Halo to improve head protection. Plans to introduce Halo for 2017 have been scrapped, but new head protection of some form could arrive in 2018.

Sauber driver Marcus Ericsson tested the device during first practice at Interlagos. Team mate Felipe Nasr used Halo for the first time two weeks ago in Mexico.

      This scares me. No matter where I move the camera, Ericsson is still staring into my soul.

      Well, if we all had fish eyes, this it’s not such a bad idea.

        Fish eyes has nothing to do with it. If you don’t want the wider field of view, just zoom in a bit, it’s still a great perspective and I can see why most drivers wouldn’t be too fussed about it.

      Shame the pic wasn’t out on track – personally I don’t like it (not that I’ve tried it) I think it still doesn’t offer the protection needed. This device would of saved who in the last ten years? Not Surtees Jnr, not Massas head injury, not bianici – probably Justin Wilson, not Dan wheldon …. so is this a floored design ? As well as the screen from redbull…? I feel the drivers need more of a roll hoop than a halo… but heyho I’m just an arm chair hero😀

        I agree with you, it just seems pointless and it seems as though it could end up causing more problems than solutions
