Stoffel Vandoorne and Pascal Wehrlein have both received two penalty points on their super licenses following separate incidents in the Spanish Grand Prix.

Vandoorne was also handed a three-place grid drop for the Monaco Grand Prix after his race-ending collision with Felipe Massa’s Williams, while Wehrlein was also handed a five-second time penalty for failing to stay to the right of the pit entry separation bollard.

The stewards confirmed after the race that both drivers would receive two penalty points on their respective super licenses following the incidents.

Stoffel Vandoorne currently has three penalty points to his name, while Wehrlein now has a total of six. Any driver who receives 12 or more points over any 12 month period will have their super license suspended for one grand prix.

Despite the post-race penalty, Wehrlein retained his seventh-place finish, securing Sauber’s first championship points of the season.

    1. Bit harsh on Wehrlein.

      1. True, a reprimand would have been enough for Wehrlein.

      2. Is there a clip of the on board? I’d like to see that before I judge. Also depends on when the call was made by his team. He still got 4 very useful points and drove excellently, though.

I don’t understand why this site is saying Wherlein retained 7th. Every other site I’ve seen including the official f1 site is saying Wherlein was 8th.

      1. Wehrlein crossed the line in 7th but was demoted to 8th after the penalty. So he finished the race in 7th and was classified 8th

        1. Do he didnt retain seventh!

From the way he turned in, it looked like Vandoorne had no idea Massa was there.

Probably looked in his mirrors near the start of the straight and thought he was safe… maybe he should have listened to Alonso’s pit radio in Bahrain (‘300m behind…’)!

    4. Embarrassing manoeuvre by Stoffel

    5. It seems like Stoffel has picked up even more penalties, he has 3 place grid penalty for Monaco GP.

    6. It’s all well and good until you realise Vandoorne will most likely start last in Monaco anyway as a result of more failing Honda components.

Keith, shouldn’t the title say “penalty points” instead of “super license points”?

    8. Awesome that Mclaren finally got some points :-D
