Grosjean lost new parts in Friday crash

Romain Grosjean revealed his car is not in the same specification as his team mate’s because a suspension part was damaged when he crashed yesterday.

“One part we couldn’t have on my car today,” said Grosjean in response to a question from RaceFans. “We only had two sets and one was destroyed.”

“So that was a little bit of a disadvantage but we did with[out] it.”

Kevin Magnussen out-qualified Grosjean by two-tenths of a second. However team principal Guenther Steiner said the gap between them wasn’t just down to the difference in specification.

“[There’s] no big difference,” he told RaceFans. “It is not like we are missing two tenths of a second.”

The team will be able to repair the chassis Grosjean crashed, said the driver. “It was just aero parts,” he explained. “It wasn’t a big shunt.

“It was very unfortunate the wheel came and hit all those small wings that we have on the chassis that we couldn’t easily repair. It’s going to be fine for the next race but it wasn’t great.”

Grosjean said he is pleased to have qualified on the fourth row of the grid following yesterday’s setback.

“[The] red flags meant we didn’t have as many laps as we wanted to have,” he said. “But I think we did a great job.

“It’s a really good recovery to be seventh and eighth, quite clear of the backmarkers, it’s [a] good qualifying. I’m happy with that, knowing that I didn’t have any information about the track temp in the afternoon.”

Poor Grosjean he can’t get any luck going, maybe he can pull it together for the race and finish high again. Haas is apparently unbalanced with the drs open going through the turns hopefully in the race it won’t affect them as much. Mega lap by Lewis though , not a fan but but he really hung out there to get the pole.

This is not the case, or at least not relevant here, as his crash was unrelated to taking the corner with the DRS open. He manually disabled his DRS before turning into the corner, but not early enough to regain the required downforce.

Nase my comment is in conjunction with the comments that both drivers made that they could not run with the drs open through the turns like Red Bull did. See the article Magnussen nearly had same crash as Grosjean. The reason that Rogro was trying to close the drs was that the car couldn’t take the turn like some of the other cars did with it open. During the race with full down force the balance should be better. It is an apparent short coming of the cars design. Rogro should have closed the drs sooner but left it open too long, hard to catch a pig after it’s left the pen.

  2. So many excuses as usual Grosjean. You did great today, but Magnussen was phenominal again in Q3. Just as you was last weekend ;-)

  3. Why cant he admit that KMAG just did a better job.. AGAIN… all those excuses… stop it GRO – MAG is the one keeping the team up every weekend not you

    1. Easy Nunu… :) its very clear KMag is your favorite driver on the grid!, but Grosjean is just doing what any driver under a bit of pressure is doing – he is fighting for his career/legacy after all… and tries to divert attention to avoid stating a very simple but painful phrase to a racing driver: “KMag was just faster than me today”.
KMag has matured and been fantastically stable and fast this year, but don’t forget that Grosjean has brought home some very solid points hauls in the past years for Haas, and I do not think he has not been a bad teammate to KMag in that time.
