  1. The limping donkeys have done it again

    1. Really astonishing how they keep doing mistakes.
We all know the pressure is high, but they really let panic take over… I never liked Ferrari but it is really sad to see them in such disarray.

      1. (never liked – in the meaning – never was a fan, not that they are that bad and make me hate them)

      2. If anything, they seemed too relaxed about Leclerc’s position near the end of Q1 and not panicked enough!
Could they have been trying to not have both their drivers trip over each other? And, at least for now, that would come at Leclerc’s expense.
Like he said in his interview, it looked like they had enough time for him to go out comfortably.

      3. I hear ya. Was never a Ferrari fan until recently but they keep finding new ways to disappoint

Somebody fire the strategy”experts” instead of team bosses

  2. Lower top-ten should be achievable for Leclerc at least.

  3. That Merc had a sub 1:10 in it. They both had kinda scruffy final sectors though. Imagine if one of them had got it.

    1. @hugh11 Very probably but the control needed to make it round the track as these speeds is insane, you can hardly begrudge them a bit of scruffiness.

      1. The cars are wrong, their dimensions are wrong. Sure, they’re superfast and spectacular, but only when they have the track for themselves.

That’s the problem, right there. Teams figured out years ago that the most probable way to win a race was to start from the lead and so they’ve developed this formula for that, cars are fast on saturday and impassable on sunday. Bernie didn’t care about that, he was too busy sucking out the profits from the “most glamorous form of racing in the world”®, and so now, when cars are to wide, and too long, and they trip themselves in qualifying it’s somebody else’s problem. And it might not get solved.

        1. I forgot to say, their engines are also wrong.

          1. Agreed. V10/12 engines, better tyres (think Bridgestone or even the 2012 Pirellis), while I like the wide look go back to 1.8m width as it gives a bit more margin for overtaking, 95% of downforce from the floor with single element wings to balance the car, no hybrid systems at all. I’d prefer that to the processions we’ve had for the vast majority of the hybrid era.

  4. It must be said, if Bottas wants to win the WDC this year, he needs to maximize every weekend where Hamilton is struggling, because Lewis will come good eventually.

So far he simply hasn’t done that. He bottled the start in China and Spain, and has bottled it in Q3 today.

    1. @kingshark Hamilton’s focus may well be more on the races at this point in his career. He has the qualifying record, he wants the wins for the championship and race win records. That said, I thought Bottas was maximizing everything.

    2. @kingshark
Bottas didnt bottle any of his starts, he was just starting on pole , which means he is on the slippery line at the must crucial clutch point .

  5. Lewis is amazing.
I don’t say he was perfect today – not at all, it is still obvious he is not entirely comfortable with the car, but anyway – you could really see him dig deeper and find that time for P1. Hats off to him.

This is what makes Champions… well, Champions.

    1. Were it not for Verstappen’s Q2, actually beating the Mercedes, Mercedes might have preped for a Bottas pole.
Instead Verstappen Q2 time forced Mercedes to consider the worst case and so nothing was left in the garage.

Once again Hamilton proves what he can do when his car is turned up to max. Lets hope there are no slip ups
on the start or in the pits for tomorow’s race.

      Mercedes 1 / 2 – a fitting tribute to NiKi. RIP.

    2. Yep, the in car cam showed that car was (no pun intended) a real handful !
Lewis seems pumped to the max…

Vettel overdrove that car in the final lap, thus the mistake. The Ferrari is nowhere in terms of aero.

    1. Or mechanical.

  7. Remarkable laps from both Mercedes, a slower third sector has clearly cost Bottas a pole.

    Wow, Lewis Hamilton.
    What a lap.

How about Gasly blocking Grosjean? No penalties?

    1. Surely he should be penalised ! Grosjean was always faster than Magnussen and could possibly have out-placed Gasly.

  10. Halo in red on the silver car just looks like a thong.. sorry Niki!

  11. Another 1-2 in the bag for the Silver Arrows. Wow at Ferrari for ducking it up again.

  12. Where did all the pundits go to that predicted the Hulk would get the better of D. Riciardo.?
The car isn’t great, even McLaren is looking better, but DR did a GREAT job to drag it up to where he did.
Would love to see another Shooey this year.

    1. Calm down. The season has many races left. Hulk has plenty of time to prove the “pundits” correct. Good drive from RIC today though. He had ALOT to make up for after that embarrassing incident in Baku.

      1. Maybe he can get “Back” to the front.
Wasn’t trying to dish Hulk, unlucky and underrated. Here’s hoping that the two of them can push each other, the Team and all can share a Shooey. Bordeaux in a size 46 ..mmmmm.

  13. I’m impressed hot much Williams closed the gap to the front in Monaco. And it’s a bad track for them. If they keep this rate of improvement they will be fighting Mercedes before the season ends.

      1. Marquis de Queensberry Rules.

    1. 1.3 seconds to 18th place at Monaco, and I’m sure Russel is wringing every last 10th out of that thing. I think Claire Williams needs to step down at some point soon for the sake of the team.

  14. Magnussen quietly becoming one of F1’s best drivers.
