Alfa Romeo’s Formula 1 development driver Juan Manuel Correa will make his test debut for the team next week at the Paul Ricard circuit in France.
The 20-year-old, who is currently competing in his first season of Formula 2, is a member of the team’s young driver programme, known as the Sauber Junior Team.“To say I am excited is an understatement,” said Correa. “A test and a career in Formula 1 has been something that my partners and I have been working on for quite some time.
“I will take it all in stride, listen and learn all while gaining as much experience as possible.”
Correa has had an uneven first season in F2 so far. He has taken second place finishes in two sprint races but only managed two other points scores and failed to score in six of the eight race weekends so far.
Nonetheless he lies 12th in the championship standings with eight races remaining, behind three of his fellow rookies. These are Renault-backed duo Guanyu Zhou and Anthoine Hubert, and Ferrari’s Mick Schumacher who has already tested for Alfa Romeo in their current car earlier this year at the Bahrain International Circuit.
