Romain Grosjean says the cause of his second practice crash at Circuit of the Americas was unclear the team are “trying to analyse” what went wrong.
“We changed the set-up from [first practice to second practice] and in hindsight maybe the set-up was less good in there. But honestly, we’re trying to to understand what happened because it’s not something you can control.”Grosjean doesn’t think the track’s bumps, which several drivers complained about on Friday, contributed to the crash. “The previous lap was absolutely fine and that lap was pretty much the same thing,” he added.
“The bumps are there, I think it’s actually quite cool. Maybe turn one is a bit too bumpy in the braking zone and it’s slightly painful on the back. The rest of the lap, I think it gave some character to the circuits and it’s all right.”
The Haas driver spun into a barrier between turns five and six early in the second session. Grosjean confirmed he was running the team’s old front wing at the time, not the new specification version which he team mate Kevin Magnussen tested.
“I don’t think there was much damage,” said Grosjean. “Basically the front wing and the front track rod. The boys are doing the best they can.”
“[It’s] a bit frustrating that we lost second practice,” he added. “I wish the car had come back more on the left-hand side in order to avoid the barriers.
“But we’ll take what Kevin has done in the afternoon and revert back to the set-up from the morning where the car felt really good.”

To me it looked like he turned in more aggressively than the downforce/grip of the car could handle, not sure how he was going on previous laps though

A driver of the car caused the crash, as has been the case plenty of times in this Haas’ entry.

Maybe one day he will simply put up his hands and say it was entirely his fault alone

The latest reports from the team suggest that they have narrowed it down to somewhere between the front of the drivers seat and the steering wheel.

This “joke” will never end. It still appears many still think Grosjean said this when he actually never did himself.

If there is one certainty in F1, Grosjean will crash at least once. I don’t know how he keeps his seat at Haas.
