  1. DOTW: BOT, but DOTD: ALB.

    1. Yup – right and right @jerejj

      1. Is me or does the race winner is the best cars always get the most votes? Lack of understanding of F1, cars, team budgets, and the talent of drivers punching above the weight of livery being driven, way to many fan boys in here…the talent of max, norris, Sainz, Ric, Russell ECT is underrated in this section after every race…why not call this car of race

    2. Has to be Ric in that dog of a Reno, only driver that punched above the weight of the machinery that was under him.

  2. Yeah, what could Bottas have done more? He got pole, led the race until his pitstop, passed Hamilton to retake the lead.

Apart from Bottas, I think the midfield showed the other stars with Ricciardo, Norris, Perez probably as well. And the top level drives by Verstappen and Hamilton off course. Albon did really well to recover from that first lap incident, but still, he had that incident.

Bit of a shame about Vettel, we never got to see whether he had what it took.

    1. Agreed, it has to be Bottas. He was on it all weekend.

    2. @bascb
      @geemac

I thought pole was especially impressive given 6 other drivers were in contention this time.

      1. Good point @slotopen. There was so little between Bottas and what Verstappen and Vettel managed, and Leclerc and Hamilton were right in the mix too.

    3. Lol what did max do he got passed by Lewis, and he failed to get pole. Not really impressive considering how fast the red bull was at the track

  3. Bottas, nailed qualifying and did it with a very significant gap to his team mate. Drove a near perfect race was never under threat from Verstappen nor did he let his different-strategy teammate hamper him too much.

Extra mentions: Hamilton for solid one stop strategy, whether Verstappen could have passed him had it not been for the double yellows, debatable. But the extra lap he did on his first stint may well have helped him to, by buying him that one extra lap for his second stint.
Ricciardo, good clean race. Solid result.
Albon: Good result to say how the first lap went for him.

  4. “Fer sure” :)

  5. The fight between Max & Albon is going to be fun to watch in 2020. Albon is coming along very quick.

    1. Albon is better than Gasly and still very inexperienced, but is he that good? I mean, just like Gasly, he rarely gets close to be fighting the top 5 cars in either qualy or race, while Max is always duking it out for pole, the win or for the podium (ofcourse, when he doesn’t get his emotions get the better of him, like in Spa or Mexico). And I know that so far Albon outscored Max, but he’s just nowhere close in pure pace, like Ricciardo was when he and Max were teammates.

    2. I hope you are right, but I am afraid it’s not going to be too exciting unless Albon finds a lot of pace in qualifying. This weekend he trailed more than half a second in qualifying again, while Verstappen messed up his lap in the first sector. I cannot call that “coming along quick”.
But he is undoubtedly performing much better in qualifying than Gasly did. The guy has got potential!

    3. “Albon is coming along very quick”

‘Quick’ being the keyword here, Albon has never been able to take any fight to either one of the top 5 drivers, he’s king of F1.5 in a car that’s aroung 1 tot 1.5 sec/lap faster. He’s somewhere between 0.5 – 1 sec/lap slower than Max which is where Gasly was as well.

Considering the quali duals Gasly actually is doin a more impressive job against Kvyat than Albon did.
Albon seems to be a really nice and modest guy, but he simply isn’t fast…yet

      1. I wouldn’t be too quick to call him slow.

Matched Max’s qualifying time in Japan
Easily matched the front runners in Mexico

Yes, he’s still got a lot of improving to do but his approach and results have been good enough to warrant keeping him in that seat. More of a Bottas than a Hamilton, Leclerc or Max, but his cool head has paid dividends in results since joining RBR and I imagine the team is looking for a Bottas to support Max whilst consistently picking up major points.

        1. the team is looking for a Bottas to support Max whilst consistently picking up major points.

Indeed, RBR probably need him to be closer to what Bottas is: a good wingman. And at the moment, Albon is not getting close enough to the top cars (both in qualy or the race) to really help Max or ruin someone else’s strategy.

    4. Albon is nowhere near Max.

  6. Bottas was absolutley the driver of the weekend, while Albon, Ricciardo or Norris was driver of the day.

  7. Would have been interesting to see what Albon could have done if his strategy wasn’t compromised by his defective hard set. I picked Alex, though Valtteri was in peak form.
