Formula Red Bull Junior Team member Sergio Sette Camara has returned to the team as a reserve driver for the 2020 F1 season
.

He will serve as reserve driver for both Red Bull and sister team AlphaTauri alongside the team’s long-standing third driver Sebastien Buemi.

Sette Camara is returning to the Red Bull fold having spent the 2016 season as one of its junior drivers. He joined McLaren’s young driver programme at the end of 2018 and tested for the team at the Circuit de Catalunya last year.

The 21-year-old spent the last three seasons racing in Formula 2, peaking with two wins and fourth in the championship with DAMS last year alongside team mate Nicholas Latifi. Sette Camara will not return to the series this year, and has been tipped for a part-time IndyCar seat at Carlin.

“I am very happy to join the Red Bull family as official test and reserve driver for the 2020 F1 season alongside Sebastian,” said Sette Camara. “I’ve been watching F1 since I was five years old and I’m humbled to have been given this opportunity to work with Scuderia AlphaTauri and Red Bull.”

Red Bull’s eight-strong Junior Team line-for 2019 up includes Yuki Tsunoda, Juri Vips, Jehan Daruvala, Liam Lawson, Jack Doohan, Dennis Hauger, Jonny Edgar and Jak Crawford.

  1. So apart from Jehan Daruwala they are adding more young drivers into the program.

They have to. They don’t have a reserve that is allowed to drive in F1 should in case one of the current drivers is unable to.

      1. This situation is their own doing. They went through their young talent too quickly until the pool dried up.

  2. The reports say brazilian Petrobras money stopped flowing to McLaren in a one-sided decision, breaking a five year contract. Therefore Sette Camara has to go.

    1. That’s a pity, he was one of the more talented youngsters. Hope he’ll find a seat in the foreseeable future.

      1. @pironitheprovocateur he’s one of the ‘forgotten’ indeed, the most baffling being de Vries.

        1. The problem with DeVries was his age, at 25 you can’t impress anymore, it’s the same for Markelov, Aitken, Matsuhita, etc.

    2. Thanks for the background facts there “only Facts”

    3. Sergio wasn’t ever sponsored by Petrobras. His position as reserve driver at Mclaren was more due to his excellent retrospect against Norris. And they renewed his contract after Petrobras left as a sponsor. He left Mclaren to join RedBull since it’s very obvious that you have more chances to drive for Alpha Tauri than Mclaren.

  3. Can’t tell him from Lance Stroll.

    1. Haha, he looks more like Clark Kent to me

  4. I was under the impression that he was appointed development driver for RBR and reserve driver for AT

well, doesn’t mean anything different from his actual role really, just a small detail

  5. Fast but erratic. My type of driver

  6. It’s too bad he tested for Carlin in IndyCar late last year. He was one of the favourites for the #31 either full-time or sharing the car with Nasr.
