    Well… the gap between Mercedes and everyone else is… depressing. Championship of two, then?

      1. F1 desperately need a season where a few (3+) teams are fighting for the title.

        I fear DAS is going to be such an advantage to the already dominant Mercedes…. Game over, and ill probably be turning off the TV after 2 or 3 races……

        I hope red bull appeal and they get it banned for the sake of an exciting year. We all know Mercedes will still be the fastest without DAS and we all know they have the “non DAS” version of their car ready (in case it was banned, a big team like them would surely have a plan B considering they knew this would be challenged).

        Ban it and we get a good season. Don’t ban it and watch the ratings/interest in F1 drop…..

  6. The midfield really is great. I expected to see Perez where Lando is, great news, I’m a Lando fan, I think by now everyone is fed up with me disparaging Sainz jr.

    1. Remember, Pérez is stronger in the race than in qualifying, if Pérez manages to pass the first corner without incident, Sergio will most likely finish higher up at the end.

      Don’t worry. I’m sure he will, and possibly quite soon. Then he will be replaced by someone else who might do a slightly better job, but probably still not good enough to win the championship.

    2. Won’t be long before he’s replaced I guess, judging from the lest decade or so.

Nah, I don’t think this level is the one ferrari stays at, it’s ofc disappointing, not cause I’m a ferrari fan but cause I’d like mercedes to lose sooner than later, so a decreasing level of competition is not what I want, but I think they’ll get better soon, however I like a strong mclaren, that’s how they were when I first watched.

      People may have ago at me as I’ve said this so many times. I think Sainz really isn’t that good. He’s decent and from the look of last year, now is solid and consistent which he certainly didn’t used to be. But the team improved so much last hear that he didn’t really have much competition McLaren were often some way ahead of the rest, but some way behind the big 3. He also got out qualified by a rookie over a season and in the first race this year, Norris continues doing that.

      He’s not bad, but I don’t get the hype I see from many about him and I think Leclerc will beat him by a significantly larger margin than beating Vettel last year.

      If Norris looks as good as Sainz this year, I think that pretty much confirms he’s just going to be a number 2 driver at Ferrari really.

      1. I agree with everything you said. And for the hype, it seems that Sainz is believing in it, judging from how self-assured he comes across these days. Imagine he gets a beating this year, and next year he’s in a worse car alongside an even better teammate. Yikes!

          To be fair though, Ferrari don’t want him for raw pace, they want him to be a dependable and drama free no. 2

      2. Thanks you for validating my impressions of Sainz! It looks like we are in the minority who don’t buy this hype around him. It’s surreal. There are still a few people who claim that he was better than Verstappen when they were both driving for the same team.

          Yea my view is that Sainz’s consistency has improved since then. But his speed IMO isn’t much better than his first season, especially in qualifying. Verstappen went to Red Bull and instantly looked pretty close to Ricciardo and within a year or two started to have the edge on him. Now I think Verstappen is close to Hamilton’s level. For the past few seasons, Sainz has been been against Kvyat at his worst, Hulkenberg and a rookie. Not really that reflective on his true performance.

          There is vertically nothing you can fault him for last year, but I’m certain the car and having a rookie team mate did make him look better than he was.

  11. Is Max starting on the mediums? That will have the strategists scratching their heads.
    I wanted Lance higher up the grid as his starts are so good that he could cause all kinds of entertainment.

    1. Yeah, after 5-6 laps everyone will slip all over the track and max will be ok. Also they will go earlier for pitstop but in the end all they will have hards but max will have them later on so they will be newer in the end.
      We will see
      In other news OMG Ferrari.

  14. With Ferrari in the equation, and ½ RedBull, midfield is even more interesting, the first corner can determine a lot of the championship in midfield.
    Max can’t win the race in the first corner, but if he gets too far out of any possibility, Max has to get out of the first corner clean, he has to avoid touching anyone.
    The same for Charles, Ferrari could lose a lot if Leclerc does not come out clean from the first corner.
    The championship will be short for everyone, those who lose in this first corner will be dragging it throughout the season.

    Focus going to be on the mid-pack again! Miss the days when a F1 championship was a hard-fought affair.
