Albon should’ve managed to beat Ricciardo, but still pretty decent. This track is at least more overtaking-friendly than last time out, so he can try and overtake him into Les Combes if not La Source.

Albon seemingly was used to give Verstappen a tow.

I still wonder why Lewis makes statements like that. Does he believe it himself when he says that or is he trying to play mindgames?

He legitimately wants a challenge. I suppose it brings some value to wins, instead of just driving away at the start.

He comes out of a session, spends a few seconds looking at the timing screens, and then is asked about it. Whats he supposed to say when he knows about the same as us about fuel loads and modes of the others; and probably far less than us in the way the session played out.

He has been on average 7 to 9 tenths ahead of any other team for the last year…

Well the gap isn’t 1 second. If we had two Bottas at the wheel it would look pretty close.
MG1982 (@mg1982)
29th August 2020, 15:16
If…. but usually we don’t have 2 Bottas at the wheel in a top 3 car. Top teams like to hire at least 1 tier1 racer, in order to max their chances at the titles. Last time we had 2 Bottas-material (aka tier2) drivers at the wheel of a top car was in 2009 with BrawnGP: Button and Barrichello.

My bet on Verstappen for the win tomorrow. With supreme Party Mode Bottas barely ahead of him, tomorrow race without Party Mode Mercedes will paid the price for slow Top Speed and Max could overtake both on Sector 1.

Did you see the long runs in FP? RB were well off the pace of Merc. VER has a shot a BOT but barring an issue he won’t catch Lewis.

I reckon Ocon has got his answer whether his car had a problem in comparison to Ricciardo’s, after changing the engine and so forth.
Ferrari might as well bring their 2018 car, because it is unbelievable how slow this one actually is.

Sometimes Lewis is just in a different dimension. Ever now and again he produces these magical laps where even the team say that time wasn’t in the car. Singapore 2018 springs to mind as well. Danny RIC deserves an honourable mention- 3 tenths off the Red Bull in that Renault.
MG1982 (@mg1982)

That Renault?! What’s with it? It seems that the only great cars on the grid are Mercedes and RBR… because they maintain 1 and 2 no matter the circuit. The rest of the cars get mixed results, depending on the circuit. Renault is better here, Ferrari like the worst showing of the season. Anyway, in my opinion RIC is a great driver overall, better than Bottas for example. I hope he gets 1 champ one day, he deserves it. Thing is Ocon doesn’t seem to be the star he was supposed to be.

Ocon has a big problem, talked up by Mercedes, he is heading the way of werhlein and vandoorne and other Mercedes prodigies. Ricciardo and the Alonso as teammates after a year out…

Put Latifi in that Merc and he will qualify second every time.
Formula Mercedes is not very good for F1. I’m sure a lot of fans are fed up with this domination and are turning off.

Do you really think Latifi is already as good as Bottas? I doubt that somehow. Mercedes isn’t going to always be dominant this year at every track. This is a long track and Hamilton just didn’t make any mistakes in his lap. The other teams were much closer than that have been actually this time out despite it being the longest track by far. Bottas didn’t have a great run, but then there were 3 other team mates that were splid by half a second which just shows how a track this long can effect the time difference. Verstappen being as close as he was to Bottas was impressive.
LB (@burden93)
29th August 2020, 16:54
Let’s not over exaggerate here. Latifi would not be 2nd today in a Mercedes, he would 100% be behind Verstappen, most probably behind Ricciardo as well

I don’t know why anytime people complain about how boring Lewis’ dominance has gotten, people think it’s clever to say “you don’t have to watch.” Yeah, let a five year old take over writing your favorite TV series and when you complain I can say the same as if I had some great point.
The Mercedes dominance era is approaching double the length of the Ferrari era. It was OK enough when we had the excitement of a Rosberg challenge. It’s simply garbage now with no one to even challenge Lewis. Bottas has been broken. There was a time he was showing signs of being able to compete. Now, he seems resigned, especially since he never complains when he gets unfavorable strategies or does anything to try and shake up LH.
Beyond all that, with these terrible TV camera angles and these cars silent, super high downforce cars, they don’t even look like they’re going fast. Add to that 90% of passes are DRS, what excitement are we seeing on track.
I binged most of 2000-2010 over the past 3 months and loved most of it. I’ve watched every race from 1980-2020 (watched most of 1980-2000 in the past year or so) and let me tell you, the line “F1 has always been like this” is something only people who haven’t watched, haven’t watched recently or are lying say. Even bad, lopsided F1 seasons used to be interesting.

Ferrari just a little ahead of Williams….sounds a lot nicer than it looks when you look at the sheets. I’m not a fan of either team, more lover of the sport as a whole, but seeing Ferrari this down the list almost hurts…
