F1 set for warm and sunny weekend at Monza

Following a weekend of uncertain weather at Spa-Francorchamps, much more settled conditions are expected for the next three days of Formula 1 action.

Practice will open on Friday in sunny conditions with air temperatures reaching around 27C. The sunshine will remain over the following days and temperatures should peak on Saturday at close to 30C.

This will be quite a bit warmer than last year’s race, where air temperatures reached a high of 22C. In the warmer conditions teams may have to make more concessions towards cooling, and could be reluctant to run in the slipstreams of rival cars for extended periods.

As was the case last year, Pirelli has brought the middle tyres from its range – the C2, C3 and C4 compounds – for the Italian Grand Prix.

On F1’s last visit to Monza Charles Leclerc won the race after making a single pit stop to switch from soft tyres to hards. Lewis Hamilton switched to mediums around the same time, but needed an extra pit stop for softs before the race ended. Valtteri Bottas, who moved up to second place at Hamilton’s expense, made a later stop to change to mediums, and finished the race without needing to pit again.
