One year on from being blocked from using a special helmet for his home race, Daniil Kvyat has introduced a new design for this year’s Russian Grand Prix.

Last year Kvyat fell victim of a rule which prevented drivers using more than two different helmet designs during a season. The regulation, which was introduced in 2015, was rescinded this year following criticism from drivers including Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.

Kvyat’s helmet for his sixth appearance at his home grand prix was the product of a competition run for his fans. Marina Perelishnaya produced the winning design, which was inspired by the avante-garde style of 20th century Russian artists Kazimir Malevich and Ilya Chashnik.

  1. At the very least he could’ve included a scale replica of Salisbury Cathedral with the spire that’s so popular with Russians…

  2. Well done Daniil. Can’t say it does anything for me. Probably because I’m struggling to where the ‘art’ is in this design. Don’t tell me it’s the the randomly placed colourful rectangular stickers. I think they are there to cover the actual ‘art’ because that turned out to offend someone or another.

Geometric Abstract Art style – Mondrian specifically.

      1. @coldfly I was afraid something like that might crop up. I’m clearly a philistine on such matters, it’s all a load of Pollocks to me!

      2. Which is interesting @coldfly, since they mention the inspiration of RUSSIAN artists. He might have wanted to go for Malevich, but the painting on the back of that helmet is indeed clearly inspired rather by Mondriaan. Mondriaan was off course Dutch, not Russian.

The part in front might be inspired by work like this though (Malevich)

        1. C’mon, it is clearly written in the article – Kazimir Malevich and Ilya Chashnik. No Mondrian here.

  3. I actually like it a lot. Seems to stand out better

  4. Ditching the helmet rule was the 100% right decision.

  5. I’m surprised he didn’t go with the tea cup design but likely that wouldn’t have been approved by the FIA
