Has to be Hamilton. Just amazing how he can keep Verstappen under pressure when Red Bull has the faster car.

Leclerc also great. It’s good to see what he can do in a car that seems to perform well on tracks like this.

Shout out to Russell too. Really hope he can finally go to Mercedes after serving his three year sentence at Williams.

    1. He applied so much pressure his right rear wheel came clean off!

      1. Indeed and after that so happy with his effort of doing so.

    2. @f1oclown
      Ofcourse you do.
Dirty and incompetent drivers seem to be very attractive for the feeble minded.

      1. The name calling…

    3. It has to be Hamilton, Max didn’t lose the rear like leclerc as you are supposed to do therefore he paid the ultimate price.

    4. @f1osaurus
Faster car? Certainly not this weekend.
But whatever, your biases are so clear it’s quite funny. You put all this effort into ‘analysis’ whilst it’s clear that you’re a rabid Hamilton fan and won’t ever criticise him.

      1. And your biases are not clear?

        1. What are my biases then Emma? If you act like you know so much then you have to back it up.

Tough one – Leclerc had an incredible race but this being the British GP, I have to pick Lewis. An iconic race and while it may have seemed easy, I wouldn’t be surprised if Lewis put in some of the best laps of his career to win. This was not his race to win and somehow he pulled another victory where none existed – that’s what the greats do.

    1. Lol 😂

      1. “ This was not his race to win and somehow he pulled another victory where none existed – that’s what the greats do.”

Yes, the great Michael Schumacher used to do it to……..

The real greats, like Nikki or Jim, roll around in their grave seeing this extremely dirty and dangerous driving by a man who should have won regardless, given he had the fastest car all weekend/season.

The greats punt their rivals off the track and into hospital and then celebrate a victory against a wounded and weak Ferrari and a team-mate ordered to move aside?

      Yay! Winning!

      1. Michael (@freelittlebirds)
        19th July 2021, 4:52

@rocketpanda if that’s all you saw, then that’s all you saw. I guess I’m in the privileged group that can tell when watching a fantastic driver do something special. I just take it for granted that others share the same gift.

        1. @freelittlebirds

It’s what he saw because it’s what happened.

        2. Adam (@rocketpanda)
          19th July 2021, 10:39

Fantastic driver he may be but he still eliminated his championship rival and currently the only driver capable of directly beating him and then only had to fight an inferior Ferrari and a team-mate ordered not to fight him. Sure his last stint was a brilliant piece of driving – got to be fair where it’s due but this was 100% not a classic race for him and it was a hollow victory. This was absolutely not special.

Celebrating himself afterwards – regardless of Verstappen in hospital or not – after *that* display, was distasteful.

          1. Michael (@freelittlebirds)
            19th July 2021, 14:57

            @rocketpanda

but he still eliminated his championship rival

But he didn’t eliminate Max – Max eliminated himself with that ridiculous defense into the corner and then by the mistake of turning where Lewis’s car was and clipping his rear wheel.

As I’ve said before, how many times has Lewis saved Max over the course of this season? The guy should have received some kind of medal for avoiding collisions with Max from the FIA. If anything Max is lucky that Lewis didn’t pull a page from Max’s book and push completely alongside on the corner and then jump in front of him, just like Max had done a couple of laps before, sending Max to meet his maker…

Max should not be complaining, he should be thanking Lewis for, again, saving him.

    3. @freelittlebirds
Iconic is one of the most overused words in the English language, and you’ve certainly not used it correctly here.
We get it, you’re a Hamilton fan and are always going to vote for him at every opportunity. The honest thing would be to admit that, rather than commenting under a false pretence of fairness.

      1. Adam (@rocketpanda)
        19th July 2021, 15:17

        @freelittlebirds

Ok you totally lost me at the idea of Verstappen thanking Hamilton for giving him a 50g impact into a tyre wall. I mean that’s a fundamentally bizarre stance to take over that!

        The delusion, is too much.

        1. Michael (@freelittlebirds)

          @rocketpanda watch this in slow-mo.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzmkhotpaRw

If you still believe that Lewis is at fault, then you’re entitled to your opinion and I respect that. If you ever run your car into a tree, you can blame the tree and give it a 10 second penalty. :-)

          1. Adam (@rocketpanda)
            19th July 2021, 16:00

Hamilton had space on his right, he didn’t take it. Verstappen even moves left to give him more space, and Hamilton still didn’t take it. He hits Verstappen’s rear tyre with his front and realistically if there STILL wasn’t enough space Hamilton could have braked to get out of it as he was diving into a space that was always going to disappear due to it literally being a corner – I’m really at a loss to see where you can’t place the majority of any blame upon him?

To be fair if a tree clips my car and sends me into a wall I’d say it’d need to be cut down. Weird analogy given a tree can’t move while Hamilton clearly had a choice.

  8. Not Hamilton Who did a dive bomb but Leclerck Who was the best driver this race even making sure Hamilton did not hit him like he did to Max.

    1. Exactly, make no mistake. Lewis would have hit Leclerc as well if Leclerc didnt give him more space. Its his signature move. I guess it is because he is surprised by the speed of Ferrari en RB. I mean usually he could make any move stick when you have an overspeed of 1 sec per lap on all other cars. Now he really needs to battle and it turns out he is not very good at it

  9. This race marks for me the turning point.

Hamilton is now a full blown Schumacher.

Punting rival of the track, decisive overtakes, team orders, winning, being fastest lap after lap, destroying teamate despite, massive disadvantage with penalty..

In short gloves are off and Hamilton has arrived as not very likable winner, but a winner nevertheless.

    1. Schumacher wasn’t that bad!

As a schumacher fan I admit he wasn’t the fairest driver at all, made several dirty moves, but he didn’t have a dominant car for the biggest part of his career, he didn’t always have a title contender every year of his career except 1.

He sometimes had a bad car and drove around it and had awesome seasons such as the 1996 ferrari one.

Hamilton, once he associated with mercedes, became very unsportsmanlike, I remember also the brazil race in 2018 where again they used ocon to take verstappen out to get another win they didn’t even need for the title.

    2. F1oSaurus (@)
      19th July 2021, 10:07

@jureo You should re-watch Imola, Spain and Austria. Or in fact the Silverstone race to see how Verstappen simply forces drivers to either crash or let him stay in front or pass. He’s the one who is doin the dirty driving and he usually gets away with it.

For some odd reason drivers do not get a penalty when they commit a foul but don’t touch cars. If Hamilton had turned in for any of those incidents that Verstappen went for, Verstappen would have been penalized.

      1. Max driving aggressievlly, is nothing new, meanwhile Lewis pushing other drivers in the barriers is quite novel.

Max being aggressive unfair, etc, really does not excuse Lewis actions.

    3. I couldnt agree more with this. And am gutted. He was such a bright young man full of energy when starting at McLaren. Then he went on to win so much, only to throw it all away (well, bar the UK ofcourse) by letting get Max under his skin and not owning up to his mistakes. Such a waste of talent

  10. Leclerc’s a no brainer with honorable mentions to Norris and Alonso.

Hamilton’s Friday lap and his second stint were mind-blowing but he shouldn’t be in the position of being waved by his teammate and chasing down a Ferrari in the first place.

  11. Third of the votes for a driver that got a penalty. Wow. Sorry guys but leclerc all the way this time.

    1. I don’t mind hamilton winning at silverstone in general, he often performed well here, but this is not one of his most deserving wins, compare it to silverstone 2008 in the rain.

      1. I even dont mind him winning his 8th title. But not like this. I will never ever listen to the man anymore. So glad he is getting old and will be out soon

    2. @njoydesign third of the votes for a driver that was fastest in qualifying and overcame a 10 second penalty to win the race.

It’s all about perspective, unless of course you’re voting purely for “driver of the first half a lap until Copse” rather than “driver of the weekend”.

      1. @minnis
Or the driver who despite having the fastest car couldn’t get pole position. Like you say, it all depends on perspective.

  12. Lec, Ver and Alo. Lec especially for the main race. Keeping the fastest car of the grid behind for such a long time was great to see. Ver did everything he could to keep his car in front, had a great sprint and for sure a great main race if he wasn’t kicked off. Alo just made the best of it, great to see he still has the spirit.

Mercedes were just sore winners. Lost a lot of respect in the way they celebrated an easy win. Also Bottas very weak in race pace compared to Lewis.

    1. Absolutely, but I thought this was clear already some years ago, that they were sore winners, surprised it took so long to see.

  13. I vote for Lewis.
It’s simply lovely to see him once again exposed as the mediocre wheel to wheel driver with severe red mist issues who cannot cope with pressure after his incompetence being so long obscured by being granted a car so fast his only “competition” were two incompetent teammates, of which one even managed to beat him fair and square.
And on top of that he showed the entire world how hollow his social awareness grandstanding is with his despicable behavior afterwards.
Never thought I’d say this, but Michael is surpassed as vilest driver in the history of this sport.

    1. Gutter opinions like yours don’t matter. Sir Lewis have got all the awards and praises possible for a racing driver and he is among the cleanest drivers Ever who raced a racing car.

      1. he is among the cleanest drivers Ever who raced a racing car.

Reality is that Hamilton IS one of the cleanest racers. If you think Verstappen trying to crash into Hamilton half a dozen times and with only one of those ending up in an actual crash is anything but proof of that, then it’s you who is delusional.

          3. @f1osaurus

Max just driving the racing line while being ahead = “trying to crash into Hamilton half a dozen times”?

    2. Michael (@freelittlebirds)
      19th July 2021, 2:46

@niki101 just curious, what is it that bothers you about Lewis? Obviously you know how talented he is, otherwise you wouldn’t be so upset. Even if I don’t like someone, I’m aware of their strengths.

      1. @freelittlebirds

For me, it’s the lying and overall shamelessness that is the most irksome.

I understand that many of his fans have similar morals, so they don’t care, but others do.

      2. I would like to have a go at answering that. What is bothering me about Lewis? Here’s a man who is a good racing driver. Talent is there, speed is there. He lucks into a car that is phenomenal. It happens, good for him. Bar his team mates no one can challenge him since they don’t have the car Mercedes does have. So he racks them up and becomes one of the greats statistically. His fans truly believe it is all on merit, I feel it is slightly aided by the car. All good. And he is good. Many races Mercedes wouldnt have won if he hadnt been in that car. So all good. Then a soon as he gets competition he shows nothing but entitlement. Not racing skill, not gentlemen like behavior. No, he immediately resorts to underdog whining narratives while we as an audience had to sit through 7 years of that. He gets it a few races (well actually he didnt since the RB is not miles ahead like they were for years) and immediately starts narratives on him being racially abused, about the RB being so incredibly fast, about Max being too aggressive. And then what does he do meanwhile? He takes out 3 RedBull cars in exactly the same way (Albon 2019, 2002), getting penalised every time and still won’t own up to it. Thats just clearly a strategic position taken there. A deliberate foul play approach to bring imbalance to your competitor. And we could have know if we would have listened to Rosberg. So if you see this kind of behavior as part of sport and think that is ok, I understand you still root for him. I just can’t. I wish I could. I really loved watching this guy. But he has made it impossible to like him.

        1. Graham (@amancalledchuda)
          21st July 2021, 5:31

          @Mayrton

A few points on your comments…

“He lucks into a car that is phenomenal.”

Your use of the word “lucks” immediately suggests that you’re prejudiced against Hamilton. I would have called it an “insightful strategic decision”. But you consider it just blind luck, thus giving no credit to Hamilton at all.

“His fans truly believe it is all on merit”

Really? You don’t think that any of his fans realised that he was in a highly competitive car? So you think all Hamilton fans are idiots, do you? More prejudice.

          “he shows nothing but entitlement”

I’m sorry, what? Where’s your evidence for this statement? Sounds like yet more prejudice to me.

          “not gentlemen like behavior”

So he wasn’t being “gentlemen like” when he damaged his car going over the sausage kerbs at Imola (possibly costing him the race win), getting out of Verstappen’s way when Max forced him off the track. No? Or how about when he moved over at Barcelona to let Verstappen through when Max said ‘I’m heading for the apex of turn two, get out of my way, or else’. No?

“he immediately resorts to underdog whining narratives while we as an audience had to sit through 7 years of that.”

So, by your own admission, other drivers did this for seven years, but now Hamilton does it and it’s unacceptable. More prejudice.

“immediately starts narratives on him being racially abused”

Personally, I’ve never seen Hamilton comment on him being racially abused. Even if he has, are you saying he shouldn’t comment on such things? Do you condone the racial abuse he’s received?

“about the RB being so incredibly fast”

I don’t understand. Why, in your mind, is Hamilton not allowed to say these things? Are you saying it’s not true?

          “Max being too aggressive”

Again, Max is too aggressive. It’s a demonstrable fact. Why is Hamilton not allowed to point this out?

“He takes out 3 RedBull cars in exactly the same way”

Well, hang on a minute, regarding the Albon 2020 (I assume you meant) incident, Norris and Perez took out cars at exactly the same track, at exactly the same corner, in exactly the same way. Are you criticising them for this behaviour? Or just being prejudiced again?

          “getting penalised every time”

Not that he necessarily should have been penalised, of course; he certainly shouldn’t have been for this latest incident. (compare to Sainz vs Grosjean 2018 at the same corner – racing incident, no penalties.)

“still won’t own up to it”

But hang on… regarding the 2019 incident, Hamilton said, “I totally accept the blame”. So what is it that you say he’s not owning up to?

“Thats[sic] just clearly a strategic position taken there. A deliberate foul play approach to bring imbalance to your competitor. And we could have know[sic] if we would have listened to Rosberg.”

I have no idea what you’re talking about here. Are you saying the incidents are a “strategic position”? So you think that he’s deliberately crashing into Red Bull cars? Why would he? Especially Albon – he was no threat to him in the Championship. Or are you saying that his refusal to “own up to it” was the “strategic position”? In which case, as I’ve already pointed out, you’re wrong. And I must have completely missed what Rosberg said that we should have listened to.

“So if you see this kind of behavior as part of sport and think that is ok, I understand you still root for him.”

But “this kind of behavior” is all simply prejudice on your part. Why should we join you in your prejudiced views?

“I really loved watching this guy.”

Given how prejudiced you’ve revealed yourself to be, I doubt that very much.

  14. I see a lot of Hamilton fans being giddy about what Lewis did today. At least you’ve lost the moral high ground in the debate against Schumacher

Hamilton took out a WDC rival and benefited from team orders in the same race, even Schumacher would feel slightly ashamed of this victory.

Nonetheless, despite Hamilton’s abysmal racecraft once again resulting in a crash, I am still confident in Verstappen’s WDC chances.

    1. @kingshark
“I see a lot of Hamilton fans being giddy “
Ofcourse they are: thrash attracts trash.

      1. Hopefully Verstappen still wins the title at the end of the season. He’s a lot more talented than Hamilton, but Hamilton’s luck has been carrying him so far this season.

        1. Indeed, at this point I don’t even care any more about having a competitive season, so long as these scumbags of merc lose, in fact, get destroyed. I know the latter isn’t gonna happen, but that’s what I think about them.

          1. @esploratore1

This race was the exact same turning point for me in that regard. They’ve been exposing themselves as horrible people this entire season, but this takes the cake.

        2. Why does everybody say luck? Red flags are gifted on cue, no luck involved

    2. @kingshark nobody is going to care about it, or the press will smother this out. Ham has beaten Michael in every way but he has not beaten everything alone, he gets his way almost every time because f1 needs it.

      1. @peartree

The same was true for Lance Armstrong until he was no longer good enough to play that role & then they dropped him like a stone.

Given the sense of entitlement Lewis has built up over the years, I foresee him becoming extremely bitter once they do.

    3. Michael (@freelittlebirds)
      19th July 2021, 0:52

      @kingshark

      despite Hamilton’s abysmal racecraft

      COTD for sure!

      1. @freelittlebirds
A friendly reminder that Max Verstappen has zero penalty points in the last two years while Hamilton has been collecting them like Pokémon cards. I think he had 8 at one point, he’s at 4 right now.

All that despite rarely having to race. Abysmal racecraft indeed.

        1. Michael (@freelittlebirds)
          19th July 2021, 4:42

@kingshark you cannot be serious! Are you comparing Hamilton’s wheel to wheel racing with Verstappen’s? If we had Maldonado on one end, Hamilton on the other end, I think Verstappen is closer to Maldonado on the spectrum than he is to Hamilton.

          1. @freelittlebirds
The last time Verstappen was involved in an incident with another driver that was his fault is Monza 2019. Since then, Hamilton has been involved in 3 separate accidents that were deemed his fault and have seen him get a penalty (Brazil 2019, Styria 2020, Silverstone 2021).

Acting like a petulant child and bringing Maldonado into the discussion as a strategy to insult Verstappen won’t get you anywhere.

I hope that in your next post, you have something intelligent to add to the discussion for once.

          2. @freelittlebirds

Max is an aggressive, but very correct racer. He nearly always stays within the rules nowadays.

Comparing him to Maldonado just shows how little you understand racing.

    4. @kingshark Lewis did nothing wrong. He backed out twice in the opening 6 corners to avoid collision. The Hyped Boy didn’t even care to back off even once when Lewis has already backed off twice and was bumping wheels with Lewis on the straight just before their crash.

      1. Michael (@freelittlebirds)
        19th July 2021, 2:47

        + 1 shark!

Hamilton fans such as @freelittlebirds or @amg44 or f1osaurus are so deluded it’s beyond belief. They’ll never criticise their idol, it’s almost a Trumpian cult.

@kingshark Thanks for the photo. It shows perfectly how Max is cutting across Hamilton’s line, when he should have known full well that Hamilton was there, and that there is absolutely acres of space on his outside, that he chose not to use. Maybe Hamilton was being over-ambitious with his move, but it’s dumb to follow the normal racing line when you know that there is a car in the way!

We know from onboard shots that Lewis had plenty of steering lock applied, and that whilst he didn’t hit the apex, he did get around the corner without leaving the track, and he didn’t lock brakes, i.e., he didn’t lose control of his car and he didn’t deliberately steer into Max, he just understeered due to being on a dirty part of the track. People accusing Lewis of stooping as low or lower than Schumacher are totally deluded – Lewis has never deliberately turned into an opponent, unlike Schumacher.

In this incident, Max could have taken avoiding action and decided not to, i.e. Lewis should have backed out of the move earlier, and Max should have known Lewis’s car was there and not turned in, hence a 50/50 racing incident.

          1. @harrydymond

            Max had to steer in…

@kingshark I’m pretty sure you were giddy for Imola, Spain and Austria when Verstappen bullied his way through. Or during the first few corners where Verstappen was blocking Hamilton. Well at some point Verstappen’s insane luck runs out and Karma comes to collect again.

      1. @f1osaurus
        Imola, Spain and Austria

You really don’t understand racing do you.

At Spain, Verstappen outbraked Hamilton and was ahead on corner exit, nothing wrong there.

At Imola, Verstappen did the classic Hamilton maneuver. The same one Hamilton did numerous times on Rosberg, notably at USA 2015.

Austria? No idea what you’re talking about. Verstappen didn’t even race Hamilton that weekend.

Silverstone 2021 was just a bonehead move by Hamilton and nothing else.

Hamilton is a mediocre wheel to wheel racer, it has to be said.

        By the way,

        Bottas 7-3 against Perez

Mercedes is still the best car by the way.

@kingshark Sorry dude I’m not to reply or even read your revisionist nonsense. What’s the point?

Reality is that Verstappen went for the crash in Spain and Silverstone. In Spain Hamilton jumped out of the way and in Silverstone he didn’t (all the way)

Which means Hamilton scored 50 points and Verstappen only 19 while Verstappen had track position and the fastest car in both instances. But sure, keep pretending Verstappen is the better driver.

It takes a lot of mental flexibility and I guess it’s impressive you have that “ability”. Imagine being a fan of Vettel and pretending he’s the best driver “evar”. How can anyone take you seriously after that? Even after the made that mistake you do the same with Verstappen. Even a donkey doesn’t hit the same stone twice.

          4. @f1osaurus
Look at this guy once again showing that he doesn’t know anything about racing.

F1 METRICS – THE RULES OF RACING

“In this case, the attacker has only their front wing alongside the defender’s rear wheel. The defender has the right to the racing line. A collision at the apex is entirely the fault of the attacker.”

In other words, Hamilton is to blame to Silverstone. Let’s remember that Verstappen did in fact leave space space down the inside and Hamilton still ran into him.

“If the driver on the inside is ahead at corner exit, it is the duty of the driver on the outside to back out or take evasive action to avoid a collision.”

In other words, Verstappen’s move in Spain was perfectly legitimate.

Also, the reason to why Hamilton is not leading the championship is because of his move in Baku where he threw away 25 points with a laughable mistake.

Why even bother responding with me when you always lose the argument?

Also you are wrong an the rules of overtaking. It’s measured at the braking or turn in point. That’s where they commit to the line.

The the same incident was deemed a racing incident in 2018. This time it was as well.

Also Hamilton didn’t make a “move” in Baku, his car was in the wrong setting because of poor button placement.

Just stop wasting my with your biased nonsense and just saying “nuh uh” to simple facts.

          6. @f1osaurus
Once again F1oClown proves that he knows nothing about racing.

A statement from the FIA read: “The Stewards reviewed video and telemetry evidence. Cars 33 [Verstappen] and 44 [Hamilton] entered turn 9 with Car 33 in the lead and Car 44 slightly behind and on the inside.

“Car 44 was on a line that did not reach the apex of the corner, with room available to the inside. When Car 33 turned into the corner, Car 44 did not avoid contact and the left front of Car 44 contacted the right rear of Car 33. Car 44 is judged predominantly at fault.”

Key word is room available on the inside. Verstappen left plenty of room for Hamilton, but he should have known that Hamilton is a dirty driver and incompetent racer.

The fact that Hamilton has gathered 12 penalty points since the last time Verstappen received one shows just what a poor racer and dangerous driver he really is.

Also Hamilton didn’t make a “move” in Baku, his car was in the wrong setting because of poor button placement.

Poor button placement hahaha what a sorry embarrassment of an excuse

That button has always been there and never been accidentally switched on before by either Hamilton or Bottas.

Hamilton just made a mistake and threw away 25 points, just like he crashed into the barriers in Imola, and just like he had a horrendous weekend in Monaco. He’s been driving like a clown all season.

            22nd July 2021, 7:26

@kingshark None of that is relevant. Hamilton had the line because he was (more than) half way up on Verstappen. It’s ridiculous to them penalize him for going a meter wide.

The button was changed because it was in the wrong place.

What are you even trying to argue about? It’s getting dumber and dumber.

          8. @f1osaurus

None of that is relevant. Hamilton had the line because he was (more than) half way up on Verstappen.

Nope that’s not how it works. You don’t understand how F1 rules work. By your own logic, Hamilton was to blame for spinning at Silverstone 2018, because Raikkonen was more than halfway up the inside before the braking zone. Likewise Raikkonen only missed the apex slightly, just like Hamilton did at Silverstone 2021.

Either Hamilton was at fault for Silverstone 2018 or he was at fault for Silverstone 2021, you can’t have it both ways. I understand that you are a huge hypocrite and you do want it both ways though.

The stewards are on my side for both incidents. Which is why they blamed Raikkonen for Silverstone 2018, and Hamilton for Silverstone 2021. They gave them both the same penalty too (10 seconds).

The button was changed because it was in the wrong place.

If the button placement was the problem, then you would see that type of mistake regularly from the Mercedes drivers, yet Baku 2021 is the only time I can remember something like that happen in a long time. Therefore it is a driver mistake and it was Hamilton who is responsible for the 25 points loss.

Again, I understand that your IQ is barely double figures, so I don’t expect you to understand this basic logic. It’s fun to school you and educate you every time you try to respond to me though.

You think Bottas is a great driver. That alone automatically disqualifies you from having a relevant opinion on anything F1 related :-)

  15. It’s funny. When Leclerc hit Gasly on the rear tire at the Styrian GP everyone was crying for a penalty, but when Hamilton does it it’s fair and should be treated as a racing incident?! Leclerc got massive crticism after that race and Hamilton gets praised for something that caused a massive shunt.

As good as Hamilton’s recovery drive was, he did make two errors that weekend: bad start at the sprint & the move on Verstappen
Leclerc had a perfect weekend with no mistakes and should be DotW.

    1. F1oSaurus (@)

@srga91 Hamilton was fully alongside. He only “hit Verstappen on the rear” because he actually tried to avoid Verstappen crashing into him. And STILL Verstappen crashed into him.

  16. This is slam dunk leclerc, he deserves the win possibly more than hamilton or verstappen IF any of the 2 hadn’t retired, let alone considering what happened, 59% leclerc and I’m between those, hamilton 23%.

  17. Toss up between Leclerc and Alonso for me.

I voted the latter. He was back at his swashbuckling best, so excellent overtakes in the sprint and great driving in the race.

I think we can safely say that he is back. Ocon was closer this weekend, but still, not able to match Alonso.

  18. Adam (@rocketpanda)
    19th July 2021, 2:17

Leclerc by quite a margin. Norris a close second.

  19. The best driver – Leclerc and Hamilton.
The best whiner – C. Horner for screaming that Hamilton drove like Verstappen in 2021 Spanish GP!

    1. I had to look up the replays of that. You could say that approaching the corner the roles were reversed vs Silverstone. The big difference here is twofold. Max is on the apex/curb and is already nose ahead of Lewis on entry of the corner. Totally different situation. If that triggered Lewis action on Silverstone he’s actually worse than I thought.

  20. Leclerc was brilliant all afternoon. Lewis took his main opponent out and needed help from Bottas to get back to the front.

  21. alpha of the day goes to lewis. punting championship rival into the hospital and being proud of it, gaining max swing in championship points, ordered his teammate to move out of the way, got the red flag to fix his car, celebrates while everyone waits for him.

  22. Leclerc for me. The car performed very well overall, but he did a great job too all weekend long. Sainz on the other hand was kinda mediocre, it feels like a missed opportunity to reduce significantly the gap to McLaren in the WCC.

  23. The ‘ Driver performance summary’ is missing the Sprint Qualifying session statistics.

If including that session it is a toss-up between Leclerc and Alonso.

    1. And as it seems that one has to have a view on Hamilton’s move on this page/site:
To me it was a racing incident; especially for it being lap 1.
But it still leaves a sour taste if the consequence is a close WDC standing when one driver has 2 unlucky DNF, one caused by the other who himself had two lucky escapes.

  24. I don’t understand what Alonso could have done more with the equipment he had this weekend. He was the only saviour of the Sprint race, He held the faster Aston Martins both in Sprint and as well as in the main races, even Perez was kept behind in that train. Hamilton on the other hand was stuck behind a slower car, Ferrari for the majority of the race, lost the Sprint race against the only competitor he has, involved in a controversial accident but gets the second-highest number of votes. I am not against Hamilton’s voting but just trying to understand the logic of the fans here.

    1. @kart1131

I think that many of Lewis’ fans were extremely frustrated at not having him win for 5 races and for not leading the standings. This is also why they are acting so poorly on this forum.

In general, I would stay that dominating sports people tend to attract the worst fans anyway: those with an immense sense of entitlement and inability to cope with loss.

      1. And do not forget the majority only became fans after he was already successful.

        1. +1 appje +1 Mayrton

Most of them are just bandwagoneers, I mean it is easy to tell with people like f1osaurus or freelittlebirds that they only watch F1 to idolise Hamilton.
I’ll be glad when eventually Hamilton does retire, not because Hamilton himself is off the grid – because that’ll be a loss for F1 – but because ‘fans’ like that will have to scuttle back from whence they came.

Yeah all those Dutch fans have not watched a single F1 race before Maxie joined F1. They have no clue what they are talking about.

  25. Leclerc stood out, but I’ll give it to Verstappen. The sprint race victory despite a grid and top speed disadvantage was something else, and I’m sure he would have done the same in the main race if not punted off. DOTW

  26. Definitely not Lewhine CHeatlton

  27. DOTW: LEC, DOTD: HAM.

  28. DOTW Leclerc
    WDOF1H Hamilton

  29. Leclerc of course. With a car that is fourth or fifth in performance, he was about to win the race and made a great qualifying.
Hamilton, Norris and Ricciardo also had a good weekend.

  30. Hamilton’s qualifying performance on Friday was amazing, and he reeled Charles in after his penalty to claim victory. However, he crashed into Verstappen, so I can’t give him DotW.

Verstappen put in an amazing performance in the Sprint Race* on Saturday. However, he crashed into Lewis, so I can’t give him DotW.

Leclerc, however, dragged that Ferrari up to 4th in both qually and the Sprint Race, and wasn’t far off getting a win on the race. He did so well all weekend, and easily deserves DotW in my opinion.

    * Yes, I’m specifically going to call it a Sprint Race, because the official “it’s not a race” line is ridiculous.

  31. Leclerc by a country mile.

The best servant was Perez. Giving up his own point from P10 and potentially more since he was attacking for P9 up to P7, but instead go for FL and drop back to P16.

  32. Leclerc and Hamilton were the best. Hamilton because in hindsight it can be said he forced Verstappen into a mistake and had to overcome a time penalty. Verstappen did not need to be so aggressive at 300kmh. I best they will tangle again.
