Alfa Romeo will hold a formal launch for its new Formula 1 car after the first pre-season test at the Circuit de Catalunya later this month.

The C42 will run in a special testing livery at the three-day test on the circuit outside Barcelona. It will then be presented in its definitive livery in a virtual launch on February 27th.

The team’s all-new driver line-up of Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou will be present for the launch two days after the opening test. A further three-day test will take place in Bahrain next month ahead of the first race of the new season.

Alfa Romeo, which slipped to ninth place in the constructors championship last year, is the seventh F1 team to confirms its launch plans so far. Aston Martin will be the first team to present its new car built to F1’s heavily revised technical regulations, on February 10th. Red Bull, Williams and Haas are yet to set launch dates for their new 2022 challengers.

  1. Pity they didn’t keep with the C40 designation.

  2. So the C40 has become an MP4/18?

  3. I thought they were going back to C40 on the basis that the design was already underway when the 2021 rules got delayed because of the pandemic?

  4. The only difference is seeing the car in the actual livery slightly later.

  5. I don’t like testing liveries because usually the testing livery is really nice and actually more interesting to look at than the actual launch one. Like that one in the image is super pretty! A lot more character than the very bland and very corporate mostly-white and red one.

    1. @rocketpanda Truth! I really like this subtle Alfa Romeo livery, but I also loved the lurid black and white dazzle camouflage that Redbull had in testing a few years back too.

  6. I’m yet to see a testing livery that isn’t actually looking better than the official one.
