   Not the only event with qualifying two full hours (or less than 90 min for Suzuka) before sunset, which is unnecessarily close, especially on a track where more than one stoppage is quite easily possible.
   However, I’m surprised about the race starting five full hours pre-sunset even though 4+h notice with last season’s 16:00 local is perfectly enough.
   As 3+h notice until sunset is enough for Melbourne, Suzuka, & Interlagos, so is 4+ for Baku.
   Therefore, I’ve been surprised about bringing forward the race by an hour from last season.
   I had prepared myself for a 16:00 return by this point which eventually didn’t happen because some session timings have suddenly changed later in the last two seasons.

      I agree with the concerns with Sunset. It does seem daft to have things later than they actually need to be. I guess the equation suggests the viewership potential outweighs the risks.

      For myself (and other Aussie residents) it would be great if these things were run just a little earlier, though I understand that you cant please everyone, and a much larger number will be happier with the timeslots than would be the case if shifted in our favour. Few are at particularly sociable hours for us, though most can be done at a push – the Monaco delays were rather stressful and I was rather a mess at work the next (same) morning. So the fact that this race works out at 9pm is a big thumbs up from me.

      Certainly better (from a purely selfish perspective) than the additional/potential additional races in the Americas and 4 to 6 am starts. I have already tried doing F1 breakfasts, and again doable, but not ideal.

      There’s 37 times zones on this earth, there’s always someone that’s going to be disappointed what time the racing starts, no matter what time is chosen. While it might not fully suit us, I think it’s good that they occasionally change times so other regions of fans get to enjoy the racing at a more reasonable time in their zone. Me, I too prefer if it was earlier.

      But I just stream quali and race at my convenience during a civilized time to enjoy, just have to make sure I don’t click on any racing sites before hand and find out the results before watching (that’s the hard part). The rest is ideal.

         @redpill I don’t disagree, and I am not sure I suggested that the times should align with my own convenience. Indeed I acknowledged the need to satisfy the majority.

         However, some of these slight tweaks make no significant difference to some of these groups (time zones) whereas they make quite a difference here given that the original start times were already ‘difficult’. i.e. one hour later in the afternoon is more significant than a move from 12pm to 1am.

         At a purely personal level, avoiding the result and watching at the next most convenient time is difficult if I have to do a whole days work in between.

            You are correct, this is one issue I just say ok on, there’s other things that bother me more about F1. None of the times really work for my schedule and time zone so a little change wont be a big issue.

            I do agree that they should stick to the same time as always, then all fans in all time zones will know when future races will start and not have to keep looking at time schedules guessing.
            When I’m in the shop, we don’t talk about F1 results and typically way too busy and focused the whole day to peruse any outside racing news even though we’re in it and we’re racing as well. Sometimes I get to watch FP1 on Monday evenings and not have a clue what happens till I watch it. But yeah, clicking on the BBC front page over the weekend, on the plane or Monday and seeing a podium shot can ruin that but it’s not often.

      I think they want to cover all the US time zones for qualifying. This way qualy starts at 7 am Pacific Time and 10 am Eastern Time. I may be wrong, but I think qualy for all the European rounds now starts at 4 pm CET or 10 am ET in the U.S.
      Obviously it’s too much of a risk to push the race back to the same time as well (red flags etc.). As you say, it just begs for something to go wrong on Saturday.
      Liberty Media will try everything to make the schedules more comfortable for the viewers in the U.S. They may push the European races even further back (by one or two hours) to get better live viewing figures in the U.S.

         @srga91 An unjustifiable reason for risking not getting QLF done entirely by sunset.
         People on trackside should be a consideration before other world parts.
         BTW, European timings aren’t what they are for US viewers.
         Besides, if LM tried everything for such a specific motive, all QLF & race timings across the championship would be different.

            I forgot: LV GP timing wouldn’t be what it’ll be either if US viewers were the sole or primary consideration.

         @keithcollantine I think you could also just add a UTC+1 for BST schedules for the races within the DST window, I think that would be fine by itself. Doing a UTC time is also not bad.

         UTC+1 is already shown for most events.

         Personally I like the way you currently show the time separately for both regions; it’s very useful.
         I think most people in other regions are able to quickly calculate their own start time based on what you’ve posted but yes, perhaps also having UTC in addition could be very useful for any F1 fans outside of those zones. The time zones (regions) you posted don’t typically use UTC format as much compared to other regions so there would be some plus’s and minus’s with only UTC format.

   It’s pretty annoying to have different times for qualifying and the race plus it would seem to dramatically favour teams that can run in a wider temperature operating window with their setups having the 2 events at different times of the day.

      Indeed. The respective event-specific qualifying & race starting times should be the same for consistency’s sake & the same for FP2 bar Sprint events.

   I think you may have missed a little race in the middle of France this weekend. Although with still only Toyota as a major manufacturer in Hypercar, it’s hard to get too excited this year, hopefully Peugeot and rest will be competing with them on level by next year’s race.

      @hunocsi Sadly, you’re correct

      The whole BOP scenario just kills it for me but I still really love watching the live onboard cameras shots during the wee hours before the sun comes up. To me, it’s priceless and my all time favorite thing to watch in motorsports.

      Now, if they can just sort out the BOP silliness and get more competitive teams involved in the Hypercar class as we already know who won LeMans 2022. Don’t be surprised to see Peugeot and other small teams get hit again with BOP before the start while Toyota populates the front of the grid. Because of this is great to focus more on the other classes.
