  1. Verstappen got 31% votes on the F1 site, as broadcasted by sky. I struggle to understand who the remaining 69% voted for, really

    1. Yep, Max done real good and would be a thoroughly deserving DOTW.

Albon was also excellent, qualifying very well, racing well, looking after his tyres and keeping a string of normally faster cars behind him.

But my vote went to Ocon, who was not only faster than his brilliant team mate but also provided two of the overtakes of the season.

      1. I was also thinking my vote would be straightforward at first but it was also a match between the 3 you mentioned above.
Verstappen had dominant car that he used to its best, made coming through the field easy and having Leclerc as comparison made it even more impressive. On the flip side, most of the midfield didn’t really put up a fight lost in advance and we don’t know how much Perez was extracting of his machine.

Ocon offered us some great doubles overtakes, starting 13 places behind Alonso and finishing one behind (on track at least) in a car that doesn’t offer a big performance advantage to cut through the field as easily as Max’s.

Albon has truly fought his car in quali and the race to get the best out of it, managing to hold off cars in the “easiest” straight of the calendar.

Tough one but went for Albon at the end and could understand any 3 vote really.

The down of the weekend is still the DRS. It is so powerful in Spa and ruining most overtakes that are just free passes. Everyone knows it, has been complaining years after years, yet we keep the same DRS on a track that doesn’t need any.

      2. @juan-fanger Two? Only the double pass on VET-GAS was particularly special.

    2. It will never not be a popularity contest. In this case, the poll might just as well have been “Do you like Verstappen or not?”

      1. I mean, 2% voted for hamilton, hilarious but not surprising given some comments I read on this site.

    3. @alfa145 I voted for Verstappen on this site, but Ocon (great overtakes) and Albon (holding off a train of cars to claim a point) were honourable mentions. I can imagine someone voting for one of them.

      1. Indeed those three did well and could get the votes… I went for Max, Ocon would be my nr.2

  2. Verstappen. You need the car and you need the driver. It does not matter what, and you still need to do the job.

    1. I voted for Hamilton … for the entertainment value …

Well it really can only be 1 driver but there are very reasonable arguments to be made to give honorary mentions to other drivers like Albon, Ocon and few others.

But 2 votes so far I can’t understand, first is 1 vote for Hamilton and the other vote is for Riccardio.

    1. Agreed. I can see people voting for Albon as he seemed to drive beyond the abilities of the car this weekend, but other than that, voting for someone other than Max is either haters hating or fanboys/girls.

  4. Very hard choice this weekend. Very hard. :D

How is it only 70% at this point?

  6. Some people still voting for Lewis in spite of him putting himself out of the race by squeezing another driver :D

  7. Albon raced his butt off. VER is in a rocket as HAM was a few years ago.

    1. Forgot to mention that Red Bull’s pitting of Perez to block Leclerc was brilliant. Perez was on yellows and did not need to pit at the time. He seems to have embraced the role of wingman.

  8. I swallowed my pride (not being a MV fan) and overcame my desire not to vote at all. Yes max had the car to perform as he did, but he clearly executed the race brilliantly.

But please Max, try not to leave me any choice other than to vote for you again.

    1. Ahah, nice, I like verstappen and eventually voted for him but I always struggle to do so in races like this or brazil 2021 where a driver (hamilton back then) has the best car and is so dominant across the weekend to be able to win in any position: this race no one really gave verstappen any trouble in overtaking; that race, the only one mounting a serious defense on hamilton was verstappen, he went to the limit of the rules.

  9. Max was a bit too obvious but my vote goes to ALO for surviving the hitman

  10. Max, Albon, and the two Alpine guys did great, but I’m partial to Ocon.

He was faster than Alonso all throughout qualifying and finished like, 3 seconds behind Alonso despite starting 16th compared to Alonso’s 3rd.
Yeah, that contact with Hamilton probably did a number on Alonso’s car, but that was still a pretty storming drive (and overtakes) from Ocon.

  11. VER easily for both DOTW & DOTD, with honorable mentions to ALB & OCO (latter for race day).

  12. Can only be Max by any objective measure.

  13. Verstappen did an amazing job. But there’s just one thing that I’d like to point out – there’s no driver on Earth who would be 1 or 2 seconds faster than anyone else, including his teammate. That’s just impossible. I bet if we put Verstappen, Leclerc, Russell in the same car, they will all be within one tenth.
Hence, Red Bull brought a hell of an upgrade for Verstappen’s car. I am curious when will Perez get it? Although it seems Red Bull don’t need to upgrade Perez’s car – they won both championships already with the current spec.

    1. If your team mate is terrible (verstappen sr., etc.) it’s possible to be 1,5 seconds faster, schumacher did in the benetton years, and ofc people go on about cheating in 1994, then let’s bring up 1995, he was still destroying his team mates. Nowadays though the difference between drivers has been reduced, but you won’t be able to convince me verstappen couldn’t outperform latifi by 1 sec + on the same car. It’s nonetheless possible red bull brought an upgrade, maybe something that is very suited to these low downforce tracks, for verstappen only because he was unusually dominant compared to perez.

  14. There was only one unbeatable driver in Belgian GP weekend and it was Max Verstappen.

  15. Apart from the obvious candidate verstappen, I think albon was most impressive with his defensive race, especially towards the end, and the alpine drivers did well too.

  16. As easy as it would be to vote for Max, I have plumped for George, on the basis that with a car he could only qualify 2.1 seconds slower than Pole; in the race he was not only able to hang onto Sainz, but able to close him down and ended the race only 2 seconds behind him. The car hasn’t changed (O.K. weather likely played a large part) but the rest was the driver, managing tires, consistent pace and lines (except for 2 laps close to the end). brilliant drive … again.

  17. Given how superior the Red Bull was, I’m not convinced Verstappen did anything all that special. He was definitely on it, and it was one of those weekends where everything seemed to click. Even Pérez, who was as usual way behind Verstappen, easily pulled clear of the field. I was more impressed by Ocon who started on the back foot, battled his way through with some clever racing. He had to as his Renault didn’t afford him too many easy fly-by passes like the ones that propelled Verstappen to the lead. I mean, all credit to the champion for a job well done, but not one of his overtakes was memorable.

Russell was calm and collected as usual, and I suppose one can praise Albon for not making any obvious mistakes, but at the same time a lot of his performance was thanks to an out of position start and a car seemingly built not to be overtaken in a straight line. The half-baked regulations took care of the rest and created a train behind him.
