Spirit entered F1 in 1983 with the 201, based on their Formula Two car. Significantly, it was the first car to use Honda’s 1.5-litre turbocharged V6 engine, which later became a dominant force in F1.

The 201 competed in the non-championship Race of Champions at Brands Hatch, and a modified 201C started in six rounds of that year’s world championship, driven by Stefan Johansson.
