Hi everyone,

I know the 2018 F1 calendar won’t be finalized until December this year, and that a provisional one won’t come out till the second half of this year. I was wondering, what do you think it will look like, knowing that Germany (Hockenheim) will be back, and also that Malaysia will drop out, and that France (Paul Ricard) will come back?

I also read on a source that the Australian GP will be moved to its usual mid-March slot of March 15-18, 2018 than the equivalent of this year’s slot of March 22-25, 2018.

Anyway, here’s what both should look like (in my view):

March 18 start:
18 Mar 2018 – Australia
1 Apr 2018 – China
8 Apr 2018 – Bahrain
22 Apr 2018 – France
29 Apr 2018 – Spain
13 May 2018 – Russia
27 May 2018 – Monaco
10 Jun 2018 – Canada
24 Jun 2018 – Austria
8 Jul 2018 – Britain
22 Jul 2018 – Germany
29 Jul 2018 – Hungary
26 Aug 2018 – Belgium
2 Sep 2018 – Italy
16 Sep 2018 – Singapore
23 Sep 2018 – Japan
7 Oct 2018 – Azerbaijan
21 Oct 2018 – USA
28 Oct 2018 – Mexico
11 Nov 2018 – Brazil
25 Nov 2018 – Abu Dhabi

March 25 start:
25 Mar 2018 – Australia
8 Apr 2018 – Bahrain
15 Apr 2018 – China
29 Apr 2018 – Russia
13 May 2018 – Spain
27 May 2018 – Monaco
10 Jun 2018 – Canada
17 Jun 2018 – Azerbaijan
1 Jul 2018 – Austria
8 Jul 2018 – Britain
22 Jul 2018 – Hungary
29 Jul 2018 – Germany (Hockenheim)
26 Aug 2018 – Belgium
9 Sep 2018 – France (Paul Ricard)
16 Sep 2018 – Italy
30 Sep 2018 – Singapore
7 Oct 2018 – Japan
21 Oct 2018 – United States
28 Oct 2018 – Mexico
11 Nov 2018 – Brazil
25 Nov 2018 – Abu Dhabi

I think we will see a mix between the two there. I have read Russia wants to shift to its later season slot (like 2014) again, so we will probably see that. The French Grand Prix is thought to be in “late June to mid July” (http://en.f1i.com/news/270197-french-gp-set-mid-year-date-2018.html).
Azerbaijan will probably be shifted in the early season slot where Russia is now, Russia will be moved where Malaysia is now. France will be placed where Azerbaijan is this year with the returning German GP falling in after Hungary.
I think we will see some major changes for the 2019 calendar with Sean Bratches wanting to have a region based calendar. 2018 is just too early to make that happen.

    A prediction:
    1. 16-18 March: Australian GP
    2. 30 March-1 April: Chinese GP
    3. 13-15 April: Bahrain GP
    4. 27-29 April: Azerbaijan GP
    5. 11-13 May: Spanish GP
    6. 24-27 May: Monaco GP
    7. 8-10 June: Canadian GP
    8. 22-24 June: Austrian GP
    9. 29 Jun-1 Jul: French GP
    10. 13-15 July: British GP
    11. 20-22 July: German GP
    12. 17-19 August: Hungarian GP
    13. 24-26 August: Belgian GP
    14. 7-9 September: Italian GP
    15. 14-16 September: Russian GP
    16. 28-30 September: Singapore GP
    17. 5-7 October: Japanese GP
    18. 19-21 October: United States GP
    19. 26-28 October: Mexican GP
    20. 9-11 November: Brazilian GP
    21. 23-25 November: Abu Dhabi GP

    13. Hungary 5 August
    14. Belgium 2 September
    15. Italy 9 September
    16. Singapore 23 September
    17. Japan 7 October

@AmbroseRPM ”I have read Russia wants to shift to its later season slot (like 2014) again, so we will probably see that.” – Where have you read that? There hasn’t been any news regarding something like this here on F1fanatic nor on any other website that covers F1. I doubt they’ve (The Russian GP organizers) changed their mind since they wanted to be around the 1st of May in the first place.

    11. Germany July 22
    12. Hungary July 29

@Harvey Lorenzo I wouldn’t put China to late-March nor Azerbaijan to mid-April as the probability of the daytime temperatures being unideal for F1 (in the region of 10-15 degrees Celsius) at those times of the months is very high. For some reason Shanghai and Baku, especially Shanghai despite being located much closer to the equator than the European venues, for example, can still get relatively cool/cold at daytime even in April, so I don’t really understand why they didn’t keep it in its original late-September slot when the daytime temperatures regularly range in the latter half of the 20s.

    Hi there,
I like the 2018 calendar as it has, but it has a few flaws.

Here’s what it should look like IMO:

    Australia – 25 March
    Bahrain – 8 April
    China – 15 April
    Azerbaijan – 29 April
    Spain – 13 May
France (Paul Ricard) – 20 May
    Monaco – 27 May
    Canada – 10 June
    Austria – 24 June
    Britain – 8 July
    Germany – 22 July
    Hungary – 29 July
    Belgium – 26 August
    Italy – 2 September
    Singapore – 16 September
    Japan – 30 September
    Russia – 7 October
    United States – 21 October
    Mexico – 28 October
    Brazil – 11 November
    Abu Dhabi – 25 November

Bahrain and China are now the 2nd and 3rd rounds, respectively. The actual calendar doesn’t make sense when Bahrain is on 15 April while Azerbaijan (Baku) is on 29 April, given how the two aren’t too far from each other.
[Similarly, this year, Bahrain should’ve been on April 9 with China the following week on April 16].

Then, to have the actual triple header of France-Austria-Britain on 24 June, 1 July, 8 July 2018 is a bit cumbersome. It’s better to squeeze France in between Spain and Monaco, considering the French GP venue from 2018 is at Paul Ricard, near Marseille. Therefore, it’s ideal for it to be after Barcelona and before Monaco, since all 3 areas are in the Mediterranean.

Austria would move to 24 June, the same slot it had in 2014 and 2015 (22 June 2014 and 21 June 2015, respectively).

Japan and Russia would switch places. The actual calendar would not make sense if from Singapore on 16 September would go to Russia 2 weeks later on 30 September then back to Japan on 7 October. A better way to do this is to, after the 2 week break, go from Singapore (16/09) to Japan (30/09). Then, Japan would form a double-header with Russia by going to Sochi the following week (7 October).

Other than these changes I proposed, the rest of the calendar looks fine.

    What do you think?

    Thank you
