A couple of years ago the powers that be in F1 negotiated with the powers that be in New Jersey and New York for a street course race on the banks of the Hudson river along Manhattan . One possible course ran through the streets of Weehawken across the river from New York City and another possible course actually ran from NJ into New York city ( spectacular !) The Weehawken course was tested and given top marks by Sebastian Vettel and the Red Bull team and the race plans went so far as the completion of the garage facilities for the race teams. Then ,for some unknown reason the plans were cancelled.
Think of a race with the NYC skyline as a backdrop and while NYC may not be a beautiful as Monaco the courses proposed did allow for overtaking , the thing most lacking in Monaco. Imagine a faststreet course with true racing capacities for overtakes , a host city known as ” the city that never sleeps” and a transportation support system which includes several international air ports .
We should all contact Bernie Ecclestone ,Gov. Chris Christie and Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Soon we could have another F1 race, which by itself is a good thing ,have it on a course which allows for true racing and have it at a venue which could set a new standard for pre and post – race entertainment. They already thought of it .let’s remind them that their first impression was right
