26. Sebastien Bourdais (Dragon-Lotus) 1’05.6858*10-place penalty.
Bit of a surprise to see Franchitti down in tenth. 13th for Barrichello is a decent first effort.
The highest Lotus-engined car is Tagliani’s in 17th, looks like they’ve got a bit of a performance deficit.
24th March 2012, 19:59 at 7:59 pm #197987Victor_ROParticipantBourdais was about 1-2 tenths faster than Tagliani I believe, but he spun at the end of the qualifying group he was in and caused a red flag, and they deleted his fastest laptime for that as far as I’m aware.

24th March 2012, 22:40 at 10:40 pm #197990DamionShadowsParticipantIsn’t “Dragon-Lotus” the coolest team name ever? Since you have to jump through hoops to watch ALMS nowadays, I’m gonna have to keep up with IndyCar and Rolex Grand-Am, especially since IndyCar is running on more street/road courses than ovals.
24th March 2012, 23:36 at 11:36 pm #197991thersquaredParticipantThe Lotus performance deficit is likely at least partially because they had the shortest development period for their engines. I also think Chevrolet have a bit of an edge since they’re actually made by Ilmor who made the previous Honda Indycar Engines.
25th March 2012, 5:04 at 5:04 am #197992BasCBParticipantReally looks as if Chevrolet stole a march on their engine rivals this year, as @thersquared writes. Ganassi is quite a bit further down than one would expect, although it might be different on ovals.
Pagenaud was the fastest Honda engined car, really impressive from him, and the team. And off course @damionshadows is completely right about the Dragon-Lotus team name. Shame they will need a lot od dragon power and lotus calm to get a good result from making up the back of the field.
25th March 2012, 7:11 at 7:11 am #197993Keith CollantineKeymaster@f1alex I think once you get past the rear construction it’s not so bad. Does look a bit strange, but at least it’s there for a reason, unlike these dreadful stepped noses we have in F1.
The front of the IndyCars look good – much better than the current F1 cars – and there’s a lot of excellent liveries. Sauber need to recruit a car painter from IndyCar…
25th March 2012, 7:25 at 7:25 am #197994Prisoner MonkeysParticipant@keithcollantine – The stepped noses are there for a reason. It’s just not a very good reason. And, as McLaren (and to a lesser extent, Marussia) have demonstrated, you can be quick with a low nose and a good-looking car, which makes the reason all the more lazy.
25th March 2012, 9:08 at 9:08 am #197995Joel HollandParticipantIt’s just the view from behind that bugs me, and that’s only when (like on Pagenaud’s car) they paint those rocket booster things white. If they’re black they blend with the tyres and it’s not so bad.
I’m sure one of the aero kits next year will look better than this. It might be rubbish but it’ll look better.
25th March 2012, 9:09 at 9:09 am #197996Joel HollandParticipantAnd really, if we get a good race at St. Pete today I won’t give too much thought to what they look like.
25th March 2012, 23:12 at 11:12 pm #197997DonParticipantObviously, the rear “bumper” is to keep the cars from taking flight on hyper fast ovals. They seem to have eliminated needless rear punctures during the race. Not the best looking, but very functional. The new IndyCars are better looking than those hideous stepped noses.
